In such studies, a conditioning stimulus modulates the amplitude of the motor-evoked potential (MEP) produced by the test stimulus. Depending on the inter-stimulus interval, effects can be attributed to different aspects of cortical processing. Brief intervals (1-5 ms) will be used to assess short-interval intracortical inhibition (SICI) and short-interval intracortical facilitation (SICF), intermediate intervals (7-20 ms) to assess intracortical facilitation (ICF) and long intervals (50-200 ms) to assess long-interval intracortical inhibition (LICI).",[9,16],null,{"type":6,"name":27,"description":28,"armGroupLabels":29,"otherNames":25},"Autonomic activity","Autonomic function will be determined using continuously recorded EKG and used as covariates to investigate any systematic impact on cortical excitability measures collected with the paired-pulse protocols.",[9,16],[31],{"name":32,"affiliation":5,"role":33},"David J Levinthal, MD PhD","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[35,40],{"name":36,"role":37,"phone":38,"phoneExt":25,"email":39},"Paul HM Kullmann, PhD","CONTACT","412-647-1533","phmk@pitt.edu",{"name":32,"role":37,"phone":41,"phoneExt":25,"email":42},"412-303-0525","levinthald@upmc.edu",[44],{"facility":45,"status":46,"city":47,"state":48,"zip":49,"country":50,"countryCode":51,"cosmosGeoPoint":52,"geoPoint":57,"contacts":25},"University of Pittsburgh Medical Center","RECRUITING","Pittsburgh","Pennsylvania","15232","United States","US",{"type":53,"coordinates":54},"Point",[55,56],-79.99589,40.44062,{"lat":56,"lon":55},{"type":33,"investigatorFullName":59,"investigatorTitle":60,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":25,"oldOrganization":25},"David Levinthal","Assistant Professor","100458941","cortical-excitability-in-cyclic-vomiting-syndrome-100458941",false,"NCT05256160","Cortical Excitability in Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* diagnosis of CVS\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* history of CVS (for healthy control population only)\n* psychosis or altered cognitive status\n* history of head injury, metal in the skull, stroke, or a history of seizures or a history of syncope (fainting or passing out)\n* implantable devices, such as a pacemaker or nerve stimulator\n* current use of the following medications or use of substances which are known to lower the seizure threshold: clozapine (Clozaril), chlorpromazine (Thorazine), amphetamines or methamphetamine, Ecstasy, Ketamine, Angel Dust\u002FPCP, cocaine, or 3 or more alcoholic drinks per day\n* pregnancy",true,"ALL","18 Years","60 Years",{"count":72,"type":73},110,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[76],"NA","This exploratory study will determine if there are differences in cortical excitability between patients suffering from cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) and healthy control subjects, as assessed by a non-invasive method of brain stimulation (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, TMS).",[79],"Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome","2025-08-21",{"date":82,"type":83},"2025-08-24","ACTUAL",{"date":85,"type":83},"2022-05-16",{"date":87,"type":73},"2027-06",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
