Song, MD, MS","Principal Investigator","100498016","ct-evaluation-of-carotid-plaque-components-100498016",false,"NCT05764772","CT Evaluation of Carotid Plaque Components","Validation of Photon Counting\u002FSpectral Computed Tomography Angiography of Carotid Plaque Composition in Patients With Ischemic Stroke","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis with ipsilateral ischemic infarcts attributable to the carotid disease\n* At least 1mm of noncalcified plaque on same side of stroke\n* Brain MRI documenting ischemic infarct in distribution attributable to ipsilateral carotid disease\n* Patients planned to undergo carotid endarterectomies\n* Patients must be able to read and understand English\n* Participants must sign the informed consent form\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Exclusion Criteria\n\n  * Patients less than 18 years old\n  * Women who are pregnant and\u002For nursing","ALL","18 Years",{"count":56,"type":57},70,"ESTIMATED","1 Year","OBSERVATIONAL","The goal of this observational study is to validate the diagnostic performance of photon counting\u002Fspectral CT to distinguish tissue components in ischemic stroke with MRI, semi-automated segmentation software or histology as the reference standard.\n\nThe main question\\[s\\] it aims to answer are:\n\n1. Presence or absence of calcium, hemorrhage, and lipid plaque components as determined on CT will be confirmed with carotid MRI, segmentation quantitative (e.g., volume) output from segmentation software, or histologic staining.\n2. Volumes of hemorrhage, lipid, and calcium components will be measured to determine plaque phenotype and correlated with ipsilateral intracranial stroke burden.\n\nParticipants will be asked to do the following:\n\nAim 1:\n\n* 1 Photon counting\u002Fspectral CT angiography of the neck\n* 1 Research Carotid\u002FNeck MRI of the carotid arteries (if eligible)\n\nAim 2:\n\n* 1 Research Carotid\u002FNeck MRI of the carotid arteries (if eligible)\n* 1 Photon counting\u002Fspectral CT angiography of the neck\n* 1 Carotid plaque tissue from participants surgery will be retrieved, imaged, and stained (if eligible)",[62],"Carotid Plaque","2025-11-19",{"date":65,"type":66},"2025-11-25","ACTUAL",{"date":68,"type":66},"2023-10-01",{"date":70,"type":57},"2028-12",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
