Participants are given recommendations to help them set goals based on their self-monitoring condition (i.e., calorie goal, lapse goal, weight loss goal) and are guided to follow a healthy eating plan to achieve weight loss and health improvement. The physical activity goal is based on baseline activity level, with gradual progression from 50 minutes per week to 250 minutes per week of moderate-intensity activity (e.g., brisk walking).\n\nThe program emphasizes evidence-based behavioral strategies including stimulus control, problem-solving, goal setting, and relapse prevention.",[9,16,21,31,26],null,{"type":37,"name":43,"description":44,"armGroupLabels":45,"otherNames":41},"Full Dietary Self-monitoring","Recording all food and drink consumed, with calorie estimates, every day.",[9],{"type":37,"name":47,"description":48,"armGroupLabels":49,"otherNames":41},"Reduced-frequency Dietary Self-monitoring","Recording all food and drink consumed, with calorie estimates, on 3 days per week.",[16],{"type":37,"name":51,"description":52,"armGroupLabels":53,"otherNames":41},"Self-Monitoring of Dietary Lapses Only","Recording only episodes of eating or drinking that likely cause weight gain or put weight loss at risk.",[21],{"type":37,"name":55,"description":56,"armGroupLabels":57,"otherNames":41},"Smartwatch-based Self-monitoring of Energy Intake","Using a smartwatch that detects eating gestures and estimates energy intake (i.e., \"calories\") via built-in sensors.",[26],{"type":37,"name":59,"description":60,"armGroupLabels":61,"otherNames":41},"Self-monitoring of Body Weight Only","Weighing daily using a smart scale that automatically syncs data to the online treatment platform.",[31],[63,66],{"name":64,"affiliation":5,"role":65},"Graham Thomas, PhD","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",{"name":67,"affiliation":5,"role":65},"Stephanie Goldstein, PhD",[69],{"name":70,"role":71,"phone":72,"phoneExt":41,"email":73},"Jill Eisel Research Project Coordinator","CONTACT","401-793-8283","tech2trackstudy@brownhealth.org",[75],{"facility":76,"status":77,"city":78,"state":79,"zip":80,"country":81,"countryCode":82,"cosmosGeoPoint":83,"geoPoint":88,"contacts":89},"The Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center of The Miriam Hospital & Brown University","RECRUITING","Providence","Rhode Island","02903","United States","US",{"type":84,"coordinates":85},"Point",[86,87],-71.41283,41.82399,{"lat":87,"lon":86},[90],{"name":91,"role":71,"phone":92,"phoneExt":41,"email":93},"Assistant (Research)","4017938154","jthomas4@lifespan.org",{"type":95,"investigatorFullName":41,"investigatorTitle":41,"investigatorAffiliation":41,"oldNameTitle":41,"oldOrganization":41},"SPONSOR",[97],{"name":98,"class":99},"National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)","NIH","100610480","microrandomized-trial-to-optimize-use-of-burden-reducing-self-monitoring-approaches-in-behavioral-obesity-treatment-100610480",false,"NCT07228130","Microrandomized Trial to Optimize Use of Burden-reducing Self-monitoring Approaches in Behavioral Obesity Treatment","* English language fluent and literate at the 6th grade level\n* Body mass index (BMI) above 25 kg\u002Fm-squared\n* Able to walk 2 city blocks without stopping\n* Not currently participating in another weight loss program\n* Not currently taking weight loss medication\n* Has not lost ≥5% of body weight in the 6 months prior to enrolling\n* Has not been pregnant within the 6 months prior to enrolling\n* Does not plan to become pregnant within 12 months of enrolling\n* Denies having a heart condition, chest pain during periods of activity or rest, or loss of consciousness in the 12 months prior to enrolling\n* Denies any medical condition that would affect the safety of participating in unsupervised physical activity\n* Denies any condition that would result in inability to follow the study protocol, including terminal illness, substance abuse, eating disorder (not including Binge Eating Disorder) and untreated major psychiatric illness\n* Owns a smartphone compatible with study procedures and is willing to use it for study participation","ALL","18 Years","70 Years",{"count":110,"type":111},275,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[114],"NA","This clinical trial is focused on testing dietary self-monitoring strategies used in behavioral obesity treatment. The five strategies include: recording all food and drink consumed and corresponding energy intake (i.e., \"calories\") on 7 days per week; recording all food and drink consumed and corresponding energy intake (i.e., \"calories\") on 3 days per week; self-monitoring of dietary lapses (i.e. any eating\u002Fdrinking likely to cause weight gain or put weight loss at risk); smartwatch-based monitoring of energy intake (i.e., \"calories\"); and self-monitoring of body weight only via smart scale.\n\nParticipants will:\n\n* Follow a 24-week online program for weight loss and health improvement\n* Use the assigned self-monitoring strategy every two weeks\n* Meet with the researchers periodically via online video call and provide research data by answering questions via periodic online surveys.",[117],"Obesity & Overweight",[119,120,121,122,123],"Online","Obesity","Weight Loss","Diet","Physical Activity","2026-02-03",{"date":126,"type":127},"2026-02-04","ACTUAL",{"date":129,"type":127},"2026-01-07",{"date":131,"type":111},"2029-03-01",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
