The first session will involve a psychoeducation component describing the association between negative emotions and pain and the rationale for the intervention strategies. The intervention sessions will consist of approximately 30 minutes of writing alternating between imaginal exposure writing and positive writing periods alternating back and forth (e.g., 3-5 minutes of imaginal exposure writing followed by 3-5 minutes of positive writing before returning to imaginal exposure writing, etc.). Exposure writing will involve writing about a pain-related catastrophic worry repeatedly until it becomes less anxiety-provoking. The positive writing topics will change with each prompt and will be structured by session theme (e.g., values\u002Fgoals, meaningful activities). They will also complete between session practice by setting aside a time for worrying and then completing a meaningful activity.",[13],"Behavioral: Pain Disengagement Training",[15],{"type":16,"name":9,"description":11,"armGroupLabels":17,"otherNames":18},"BEHAVIORAL",[9],null,[20],{"name":21,"affiliation":5,"role":22},"Katherine McDermott, PhD","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[24,28],{"name":21,"role":25,"phone":26,"phoneExt":18,"email":27},"CONTACT","(617) 643-4208","kmcdermott@mgh.harvard.edu",{"name":29,"role":25,"phone":18,"phoneExt":18,"email":30},"Ana-Maria Vranceanu, PhD","avranceanu@mgh.harvard.edu",[32],{"facility":5,"status":33,"city":34,"state":35,"zip":36,"country":37,"countryCode":38,"cosmosGeoPoint":39,"geoPoint":44,"contacts":45},"RECRUITING","Boston","Massachusetts","02114","United States","US",{"type":40,"coordinates":41},"Point",[42,43],-71.05977,42.35843,{"lat":43,"lon":42},[46,47],{"name":21,"role":25,"phone":26,"phoneExt":18,"email":27},{"name":21,"role":22,"phone":18,"phoneExt":18,"email":18},{"type":22,"investigatorFullName":49,"investigatorTitle":50,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":18,"oldOrganization":18},"Katherine A McDermott","Staff psychologist",[52],{"name":53,"class":54},"National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH)","NIH","100582964","pain-disengagement-training-open-pilot-100582964",false,"NCT06870162","Pain Disengagement Training (Open Pilot)","Pain Disengagement Training: A Self-directed Intervention for Pain Catastrophizing (Open Pilot)","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n1.
