The first section of the e-PBI provides an introduction to the problem of substance use. The second section focuses on specific skill building strategies that parents can use to improve communication channels with their teen. Third is a section that addresses peer influence and provides strategies for developing assertiveness. The fourth section is an in-depth discussion of underage drinking, physiological and psychological effects, mixing alcohol with other drugs, motives for why students drink and don't drink, warning signs, risky binge-type drinking, impaired driving, riding with impaired drivers, alcohol and sexual assault, and how to communicate about parents' experiences when they were young.",[15],[33],{"name":34,"affiliation":5,"role":35},"Robert Turrisi, PhD","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[37,41],{"name":34,"role":38,"phone":39,"phoneExt":23,"email":40},"CONTACT","814-865-7808","rjt13@psu.edu",{"name":42,"role":38,"phone":43,"phoneExt":23,"email":44},"Sarah Ackerman, MS","814-865-4222","sdf5013@psu.edu",[46],{"facility":5,"status":47,"city":48,"state":49,"zip":50,"country":51,"countryCode":52,"cosmosGeoPoint":53,"geoPoint":58,"contacts":59},"RECRUITING","University Park","Pennsylvania","16802","United States","US",{"type":54,"coordinates":55},"Point",[56,57],-77.85639,40.80201,{"lat":57,"lon":56},[60],{"name":34,"role":38,"phone":39,"phoneExt":23,"email":40},{"type":35,"investigatorFullName":62,"investigatorTitle":63,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":23,"oldOrganization":23},"Robert Turrisi","Professor of Biobehavioral Health","100465840","project-e-pbi---parent-intervention-to-reduce-college-student-drinking-and-cannabis-use-100465840",false,"NCT05345951","Project e-PBI+ - Parent Intervention to Reduce College Student Drinking and Cannabis Use","A Randomized Clinical Trial: Examining a Brief Parent-intervention to Reduce College Student Drinking and Cannabis Use","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Parent and teen both consent and complete baseline (forming a dyad testing unit)\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Outside of the teen age range; both parent and teen do not consent and complete baseline",true,"ALL","18 Years","19 Years",{"count":76,"type":77},2425,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[80],"NA","College students' risky drinking and cannabis use are major public health problems. The harms associated with risky drinking have been well-documented (such as deaths, blackouts, injuries, assaults, arrests, sexual consequences, academic consequences). Both college health administrators and parents have requested electronic parent-based interventions (e-PBIs) with additional content on cannabis. Parents have demonstrated ample motivation to communicate with their teens. The proposed research will attempt to enhance an existing effective e-PBI, curb the alarming trends noted in the literature, and move the field forward by conducting a randomized controlled trial testing a modified version of the e-PBI that includes updated content including the most up-to-date scientific information from cannabis studies (e-PBI+).",[83,84,85,86,87,88],"Underage Drinking","Cannabis Use","Drinking, Teen","Drinking, College","College Drinking","Teen Drinking","2025-07-14",{"date":91,"type":92},"2025-07-17","ACTUAL",{"date":94,"type":92},"2023-07-13",{"date":96,"type":77},"2026-07",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
