During this pre-evaluation phase, perceived usability, enjoyment, ease of use, and potential VR-related discomfort associated with the VR games were assessed using standardized outcome measures, including the System Usability Scale (SUS), the enjoyment subscale of the Game User Experience Satisfaction Scale (GUESS), and the Virtual Reality Sickness Questionnaire (VRSQ). In addition, qualitative user feedback was collected through open-ended questions regarding gameplay experience, perceived difficulties, and suggestions for improvement. Findings from this formative evaluation were used to optimize gameplay mechanics, interaction design, and overall system usability prior to implementation of the randomized controlled trial.",[9],[35,40],{"name":36,"role":37,"phone":38,"phoneExt":26,"email":39},"Sahra Şirvan Tongar, MSc.","CONTACT","+905319249229","csahrasirvan@gmail.com",{"name":41,"role":37,"phone":42,"phoneExt":26,"email":43},"Yonca Zenginler Yazgan, Associate Professor","+905326006294","y.zenginleryazgan@iuc.edu.tr",[45],{"facility":46,"status":47,"city":48,"state":49,"zip":50,"country":51,"countryCode":26,"cosmosGeoPoint":52,"geoPoint":57,"contacts":58},"İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi","RECRUITING","Istanbul","Fatih","34098","Turkey (Türkiye)",{"type":53,"coordinates":54},"Point",[55,56],28.94966,41.01384,{"lat":56,"lon":55},[59],{"name":36,"role":37,"phone":60,"phoneExt":26,"email":39},"+90 531 924 92 29",{"type":62,"investigatorFullName":63,"investigatorTitle":64,"investigatorAffiliation":65,"oldNameTitle":26,"oldOrganization":26},"PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR","Sahra Şirvan","MSc Physiotherapist","Istanbul University - Cerrahpasa","100596003","the-effect-of-virtual-reality-applications-on-upper-extremity-functions-in-patients-with-duchenne-muscular-dystrophy-100596003",false,"NCT07039799","The Effect of Virtual Reality Applications on Upper Extremity Functions in Patients With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Clinical diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)\n* Age ≥ 7 years\n* Ambulatory or non-ambulatory status (both are eligible)\n* Ability to follow movement instructions\n* Brooke Upper Extremity Functional Rating Scale (BUEFS) level ≤ 4 (i.e., able to bring hand to mouth)\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Presence of any neurological diagnosis other than DMD\n* Cognitive, behavioral, or communication impairments that limit participation\n* Systemic illness or condition interfering with participation\n* Severe visual impairments incompatible with VR headset use\n* Presence of severe contractures or deformities that prevent execution of VR-based exercises","MALE","7 Years","18 Years",{"count":76,"type":77},36,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[80],"NA","This study aims to evaluate the effects of fully immersive virtual reality (VR) applications on upper extremity (UE) functions in individuals diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a progressive neuromuscular disorder that leads to muscle weakness and loss of function, including the upper limbs, which are essential for daily activities and independence.\n\nIn this randomized controlled trial, 36 participants with DMD will be divided into two groups: a control group receiving conventional physiotherapy and an intervention group receiving the same physiotherapy program (excluding upper extremity exercises) combined with VR-based exercises. The VR games will be designed specifically to improve shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand functions and will be delivered using Meta Quest 3 headsets with hand-tracking capabilities.\n\nBoth groups will receive therapy twice a week for 8 weeks. Assessments will be conducted before and after the intervention, and at follow-up, using validated tools to measure UE function, grip strength, fine motor skills, trunk control, fatigue, quality of life, and participation in daily activities.\n\nThe study aims to explore innovative rehabilitation strategies for DMD and contribute to improving the independence and quality of life of affected individuals.",[83,84],"Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)","Virtual Reality",[86,84,87],"Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy","Upper Extremity","2026-05-15",{"date":90,"type":91},"2026-05-19","ACTUAL",{"date":93,"type":91},"2025-08-15",{"date":95,"type":77},"2027-08-15",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
