The fasting period can be personalized to suit individual schedules. During these fasting hours, participants must abstain from all foods and caloric drinks, but are encouraged to stay hydrated with non-caloric beverages and they will follow a structured, calorie-restricted diet, tailored to them, using a developed Food Frequency Questionnaire tool to select their daily calorie intake across sections to identify appropriate foods and beverages for patients with metabolic conditions. They will be prescribed to engage in at least 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity aerobic activities, such as brisk walking will be measured and evaluated using the mobile application of physical activity recommended by the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia.",[9],[23],"Intervention Group",[25],{"name":26,"affiliation":27,"role":28},"Hazizi Abu Saad, PhD","Universiti Putra Malaysia, 43400 Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia","STUDY_DIRECTOR",[30,35],{"name":31,"role":32,"phone":33,"phoneExt":17,"email":34},"Lamia Salem Almazid, Master","CONTACT","+601161519002","drlamiasalem2024@gmail.com",{"name":26,"role":32,"phone":36,"phoneExt":17,"email":37},"+60397692434","hazizi@upm.edu.my",[39],{"facility":40,"status":41,"city":42,"state":43,"zip":44,"country":45,"countryCode":46,"cosmosGeoPoint":47,"geoPoint":52,"contacts":53},"Associate Professor Dr. Hazizi Abu Saad","RECRUITING","Serdang","Selangor","43300","Malaysia","MY",{"type":48,"coordinates":49},"Point",[50,51],101.71667,3.03333,{"lat":51,"lon":50},[54,56],{"name":26,"role":32,"phone":55,"phoneExt":17,"email":37},"+603-97692434",{"name":31,"role":32,"phone":57,"phoneExt":17,"email":34},"+966555414884",{"type":59,"investigatorFullName":60,"investigatorTitle":61,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":17,"oldOrganization":17},"PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR","LAMIA SALEM A ALMAZID","Principal Investigator","100606907","the-effectiveness-of-intermittent-fasting-caloric-restriction-and-physical-activity-on-metabolic-syndrome-100606907",false,"NCT07181655","The Effectiveness of Intermittent Fasting, Caloric Restriction and Physical Activity On Metabolic Syndrome","The Effectiveness of Intermittent Fasting, Caloric Restriction and Physical Activity Intervention On Metabolic Syndrome Biomarkers Among Adults With Metabolic Syndrome at Hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* The inclusion criteria will be adult aged 18 years and above who have three or more of the following five risk factors (Kunduraci \\& Ozbek, 2020):\n\n * Abdominal obesity.\n * Elevated triglycerides.\n * Low HDL cholesterol.\n * Elevated blood pressure.\n * Elevated fasting blood glucose.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Being pregnant, lactating women.\n* Diagnosis of cardiac failure or\u002Fand severe renal or liver diseases, cancer.\n* Having had bariatric surgery.\n* Physical or mental disability.\n* Neurological or cognitive impairment.\n* Participant with severely impaired vision, hearing, or speech.\n* Following a special diet or having changed their dietary pattern within the previous 12 weeks of the study's start date.\n* Use of insulin or sulphonamide derivative oral antidiabetic drugs.\n* Conditions that will seriously affect weight management such as having had bariatric surgery.","ALL","18 Years","80 Years",{"count":73,"type":74},140,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[77],"NA","Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a global health issue defined by a cluster of risk factors-abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure, high fasting blood sugar, high triglycerides, and low HDL cholesterol-that together significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and overall mortality. Globally, about 20-25% of adults are affected, but prevalence varies by region and population; in Saudi Arabia, studies report rates ranging from 28.3% to 56.4%, with higher rates observed in northern and central regions and among men. Major contributors to MetS in Saudi Arabia include obesity, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, and poor dietary habits, such as low fruit consumption. Effective management strategies focus on weight loss through caloric restriction, intermittent fasting, and increased physical activity, all of which have demonstrated improvements in metabolic markers like insulin sensitivity, blood pressure, and lipid profiles. Despite international evidence supporting these interventions, no randomized controlled trials have yet evaluated the combined effects of these approaches on MetS biomarkers in Saudi adults, underscoring the need for targeted research and public health initiatives to address the high and regionally variable burden of MetS in the country.",[80],"Metabolic Syndrome",[82,83],"metabolic syndrome","MetS","2025-09-18",{"date":86,"type":87},"2025-09-24","ACTUAL",{"date":89,"type":87},"2025-04-01",{"date":91,"type":74},"2027-12-30",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
