The A\u002FP coil supports double-blinding of treatment. The coil has two sides, one of which is shielded so that no energy is imparted to the brain when the shielded side is applied to the subject's head. Small skin electrodes are applied to the scalp under the coil that impart a small microcurrent to the scalp simulating the sensation of active treatment. The operator receives a code from the device instructing them which side of the coil to use for each subject, ensuring complete treatment blinding.",[13],"Device: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)",{"label":15,"type":10,"description":16,"interventionNames":17},"Sham- followed by Active treatment","Patients will be randomized to receive active or sham at vlPFC. Subjects assigned to the sham-controlled condition will be offered the opportunity to cross-over to open - label TMS treatment at the conclusion of the double-blind phase. This phase will serve as an incentive to recruitment because it ensures that all subjects (even those initially receiving sham stimulation) will eventually be eligible to receive active treatment. Rating scale scores will be obtained in the open-label extension just as scheduled in the controlled phase to gather additional information on efficacy of the active intervention.",[13],[19],{"type":20,"name":21,"description":22,"armGroupLabels":23,"otherNames":24},"DEVICE","Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)","Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression. Using pulsed magnetic fields, transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy stimulates the part of the brain thought to be involved with mood regulation. These magnetic fields do not directly affect the whole brain; they only reach about 2-3 centimeters into the brain directly beneath the treatment coil.As these magnetic fields move into the brain, they produce very small electrical currents. These electrical currents activate cells within the brain, causing them to rewire, a process called neuroplasticity.",[9,15],null,[26,31],{"name":27,"role":28,"phone":29,"phoneExt":24,"email":30},"Elizabeth Pinkerton","CONTACT","310-794-0331","EPinkerton@mednet.ucla.edu",{"name":32,"role":28,"phone":24,"phoneExt":24,"email":33},"Research Coordinator","TMSResearch@mednet.ucla.edu",[35,52],{"facility":36,"status":37,"city":38,"state":39,"zip":40,"country":41,"countryCode":42,"cosmosGeoPoint":43,"geoPoint":48,"contacts":49},"Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA","RECRUITING","Los Angeles","California","90024","United States","US",{"type":44,"coordinates":45},"Point",[46,47],-118.24368,34.05223,{"lat":47,"lon":46},[50,51],{"name":27,"role":28,"phone":29,"phoneExt":24,"email":30},{"name":32,"role":28,"phone":24,"phoneExt":24,"email":33},{"facility":53,"status":37,"city":38,"state":39,"zip":40,"country":41,"countryCode":42,"cosmosGeoPoint":54,"geoPoint":56,"contacts":57},"Semel Institute\u002F UCLA TMS",{"type":44,"coordinates":55},[46,47],{"lat":47,"lon":46},[58,60,62,65],{"name":59,"role":28,"phone":29,"phoneExt":24,"email":30},"Elizabeth Pinkerton, BS",{"name":61,"role":28,"phone":24,"phoneExt":24,"email":33},"UCLA TMS Research Coordinator",{"name":63,"role":64,"phone":24,"phoneExt":24,"email":24},"Andrew Leuchter, MD","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",{"name":66,"role":67,"phone":24,"phoneExt":24,"email":24},"Reza Tadayon-Nejad, MD, PhD","SUB_INVESTIGATOR",{"type":64,"investigatorFullName":69,"investigatorTitle":70,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":24,"oldOrganization":24},"Andrew F.
