First-time patellofemoral dislocation is a significant problem, and the ramifications of recurrence for patients are substantial. Due to the multifactorial nature of the pathoanatomy of patellofemoral instability, it has been difficult to design trials that will show how interventions could affect the natural history of these young patients. No definitive studies have determined whether the surgical reconstruction of the MPFL in patients with mild to moderate pathoanatomic risk factors will decrease the re-dislocation rate after a first-time dislocation. In addition, to date, no synthetic option has provided both biology and strength for ligament augmentation. This innovation may allow for a minimalist approach to keeping the patella centred in the trochlear groove during the healing phase after a first-time dislocation.",[28],"Patellofemoral Dislocation","RECRUITING","2025-10-21",{"date":32,"type":33},"2025-10-22","ACTUAL",{"date":35,"type":33},"2024-01-15",{"date":37,"type":22},"2027-06-30",{"name":39,"class":40},"Banff Sport Medicine Foundation","OTHER",1,{"id":43,"slug":44,"hasResults":11,"nctId":45,"briefTitle":46,"officialTitle":46,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":47,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":48,"maxAge":49,"enrollmentInfo":50,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":23,"phases":52,"briefSummary":53,"conditions":54,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":56,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":57,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":58,"startDateStruct":60,"completionDateStruct":62,"leadSponsor":64,"locationsCount":41},"100494147","effectiveness-of-cingal-for-improving-pain-scores-and-function-in-anterior-knee-pain-100494147","NCT05714397","Effectiveness of Cingal™ for Improving Pain Scores and Function in Anterior Knee Pain","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Age 18 - 35 years\n* Standard weight-bearing AP and skyline view knee x-rays\n* Retropatellar or peripatellar knee pain for a minimum of 2 months\n* Confirmed diagnosis of AKP that has failed to improve with a minimum of 6 weeks of conservative treatment (activity modification, supervised physiotherapy, exercise therapy, taping or bracing, NSAIDS)\n* Pain aggravated by at least two of the following patellofemoral joint loading activities: squatting, running, ascending or descending stairs, or sitting with prolonged knee flexion.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* X-ray evidence of knee osteoarthritis or fracture\n* Meniscal or ligamentous injury assessed or suspected on clinical examination\n* Previous knee surgery\n* History of patellar instability\n* Any contraindication to knee injection (overlying skin condition, joint infection, significant joint effusion, coagulopathy, previous adverse reaction, etc.)\n* Known allergy to Cingal™ or its constituents\n* Previous knee injection within the last 3 months\n* BMI greater than 30 kg\u002Fm2\n* Diabetes, inflammatory conditions (rheumatologic disease, ankylosing spondylitis), or concurrent medical conditions which may result in chronic pain or altered pain sensation\n* Pregnant or breastfeeding\n* Workers Compensation Board case\n* Patient involved in litigation","18 Years","35 Years",{"count":51,"type":22},24,[25],"Anterior Knee Pain (AKP) is a common condition that can be challenging to treat effectively.
