A current global empirical study, published in 2025, estimated that asthma affects about 260 million people, and it is responsible for about 455,000 deaths globally. Despite the morbidity and mortality-laden nature of asthma, the awareness and knowledge of this important condition remains low among several populations. Notably, no known multi-country intervention study has ever investigated the effectiveness, acceptability, and usability of medical TV programs in educating young persons on asthma. Therefore, this two-arm randomized control trial (RCT) aims to evaluate the impact of watching a medical TV drama on asthma among a sample of individuals (who do not have prior medical knowledge) from different cultural backgrounds and countries.",[28],"Asthma",[28,30,31,32,33],"Television","Drama","Literacy","Medical","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2025-12-02",{"date":37,"type":38},"2025-12-04","ACTUAL",{"date":40,"type":22},"2025-12-25",{"date":42,"type":22},"2026-04-25",{"name":44,"class":45},"Cephas Health Research Initiative Inc, Ibadan, Nigeria","NETWORK",{"id":47,"slug":48,"hasResults":11,"nctId":49,"briefTitle":50,"officialTitle":51,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":52,"healthyVolunteers":16,"sex":17,"minAge":18,"maxAge":19,"enrollmentInfo":53,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":23,"phases":55,"briefSummary":56,"conditions":57,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":34,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":61,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":62,"startDateStruct":63,"completionDateStruct":65,"leadSponsor":67,"locationsCount":4},"100608984","the-impact-of-medical-tv-drama-in-improving-literacy-on-neurocysticercosis-100608984","NCT07208656","The Impact of Medical TV Drama in Improving Literacy on Neurocysticercosis","The Impact of Medical TV Drama in Improving Literacy on Neurocysticercosis: An Online Open-Label Two-Arm Randomized Controlled Trial","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Aged 18 to 35 years\n* Proficient in English (reading and comprehension)\n* Has access to a stable internet connection\n* Possesses a screen-enabled device (e.g., smartphone, tablet, or computer)\n* Has access to the Netflix streaming platform\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Has formal education in medical or health sciences\n* Has a prior diagnosis of neurocysticercosis (NCC)\n* Has previously participated in any NCC-related health literacy or awareness program\n* Lacks access to the Netflix movie platform\n* Below 18 years or above 35 years of age",{"count":54,"type":22},60,[25],"This randomized controlled trial evaluates whether exposure to a medical television drama improves knowledge of neurocysticercosis (NCC) among young adults. Sixty participants aged 18-35 will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group, which will watch a medically relevant TV episode (House M.D., Season 1, Episode 1), or a control group with no media exposure.
