The main questions this study aims to answer are:\n\n* Does viewing an aphasia ID card improve healthy volunteers' understanding of the language errors made by people with aphasia?\n* Does viewing an aphasia ID card improve healthy volunteers' understanding of people with aphasia who make long pauses in their speech?\n\nResearchers will compare aphasia ID cards to a control condition (no ID card) to see whether aphasia ID cards improve healthy volunteers' understanding.\n\nHealthy volunteers will visit the study site for a single session (about 2 hours long). During the session they will:\n\n* Complete brief tests of their vision, hearing and thinking\n* Listen to sentences produced by a speaker with aphasia while their eye movements are recorded\n* Complete a survey about the experience of listening to the speaker with aphasia",[29],"Aphasia",[29,31,32,33,34,35,36],"Communication partner","Service worker","Language processing","Language comprehension","aphasia identification card","eye-tracking","RECRUITING","2026-04-28",{"date":40,"type":41},"2026-04-29","ACTUAL",{"date":43,"type":41},"2025-09-22",{"date":45,"type":23},"2026-08-01",{"name":47,"class":48},"University of Massachusetts, Amherst","OTHER",1,{"id":51,"slug":52,"hasResults":11,"nctId":53,"briefTitle":54,"officialTitle":54,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":55,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":18,"minAge":19,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":56,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":24,"phases":58,"briefSummary":60,"conditions":61,"keywords":63,"overallStatus":37,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":67,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":68,"startDateStruct":70,"completionDateStruct":71,"leadSponsor":73,"locationsCount":49},"100594216","early-phase-1-burning-mouth-syndrome-symptoms-and-management-100594216","NCT07016555","Burning Mouth Syndrome: Symptoms and Management","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Have buring mouth syndrome or experience oral burn\n* Live in the United States\n* At least 18 years old\n* Having been diagnosed or suspected diagnosis of burning mouth syndrome or suffer from chronic oral burn without any identifiable causative lesion\n* No tongue or cheek piercings\n* No history of cancer\n* No recent or scheduled dental treatment\n* No history of gum disease\n* No aversions to mint or hop extracts\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Have recently undergone dental treatment in the last three months or have plans to undergo dental treatment (e.g., fillings, crowns, root canals, extractions, or other dental procedures) in the coming month.\n* Have started any new treatments for BMS in the last 3 months or have plans to start new treatments in the coming month.",{"count":57,"type":23},50,[59],"EARLY_PHASE1","This research study aims to evaluate how an oral cooling spray, currently a commercial dietary supplement, impacts symptoms associated with burning mouth syndrome (BMS). The intervention is based in principles of motivational interviewing. Students complete a baseline assessment on their alcohol use and alcohol-related consequences. During the hour-long session, the counselor uses information from the baseline assessment to compare the student's level of alcohol consumption to that of peers at the same university, discuss choices that may lead to experiencing negative consequences, and provide opportunities for the student to set goals for risk reduction.\n\nThis study will develop and pilot a maintenance enhancement intervention. The intervention is expected to consist of four components, for example: (1) Student participants may learn to use techniques based in mindfulness to cope with negative emotions. (2) Student participants may identify barriers to reducing their alcohol use and identify protective strategies for navigating those barriers. (3) Student participants may be presented with narratives from other students who successfully resumed moderate drinking after a heavy drinking episode. Students may also be prompted to identify alcohol free activities that they enjoy and can engage in after experiencing a heavy drinking episode.
