This proposed project aims at examining GABA-mediated inhibition as the potential mechanism behind this link. Our overarching hypothesis is that changes in the excitatory-inhibitory balance with a reduction of GABAergic inhibition is a common mechanism underlying age-related multisensory and postural deficits potentially mediated by age-related reduction in network segregation. To test this hypothesis, we will assess the relationship between age-related multisensory\u002Fpostural deficits and age-related reduction in GABA concentration in related brain areas and probe the role of GABA-mediated inhibition using cognitive training that specifically targets inhibitory functions. Our multimodal approach is innovative, and findings from this study has the potential to lead to the development of safe and effective rehabilitation protocols for older adults with impaired multisensory temporal integration and postural control.",[27],"Healthy Aging","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-04-27",{"date":31,"type":32},"2026-05-01","ACTUAL",{"date":34,"type":21},"2027-12-01",{"date":36,"type":21},"2031-11-30",{"name":38,"class":39},"University of Nevada, Reno","OTHER",{"id":41,"slug":42,"hasResults":11,"nctId":43,"briefTitle":44,"officialTitle":45,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":46,"healthyVolunteers":15,"sex":16,"minAge":47,"maxAge":48,"enrollmentInfo":49,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":22,"phases":51,"briefSummary":52,"conditions":53,"keywords":60,"overallStatus":67,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":68,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":69,"startDateStruct":71,"completionDateStruct":73,"leadSponsor":75,"locationsCount":76},"100482169","the-social-regulation-of-threat-related-vigilance-and-arousal-100482169","NCT05558527","The Social Regulation of Threat-related Vigilance and Arousal","Effects of Trauma and Discrimination on the Social Regulation of Threat-related Vigilance and Arousal","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* In a stable romantic relationship for 6 months or more\n* Normal vision or corrected-to-normal vision\n* Fluent in English\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* If vision is corrected-to-normal, needs to use hard contact lenses, bifocal contact lenses, or glasses\n* Experienced a traumatic event within the past 4 weeks","18 Years","65 Years",{"count":50,"type":21},45,[24],"This study will examine the effects of social support on threat vigilance and arousal using eye tracking.
