Elevated temperatures raise the risk of mortality and hospital admissions, particularly among people with chronic illnesses such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Globally, around 530 million people live with T2DM , and in the United Kingdom nearly six million are affected, creating a substantial population vulnerable to heat related illness.\n\nPeople with T2DM are at heightened risk of cardiovascular disease, which can impair cardiac output, a key component of thermoregulation, as it supports increased skin blood flow for heat dissipation. T2DM also attenuates eccrine sweat gland function, peripheral vasodilation, reducing evaporative cooling capacity. These physiological constraints highlight the need for effective strategies to improve heat tolerance in this group.\n\nRecent evidence shows that exogenous taurine supplementation can enhance sweating in healthy individuals, potentially improving heat loss. This study will examine whether acute taurine supplementation, alone or combined with beetroot, can limit rises in core temperature in people with T2DM during an acute extreme heat exposure.",[26],"Type 2 Diabetes",[28,29,30,31],"climate","taurine","nitrate","heat","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-06-12",{"date":35,"type":36},"2026-06-18","ACTUAL",{"date":38,"type":20},"2026-06-01",{"date":40,"type":20},"2028-04-01",{"name":42,"class":43},"University of Portsmouth","OTHER",{"id":45,"slug":46,"hasResults":11,"nctId":47,"briefTitle":48,"officialTitle":49,"acronym":50,"eligibilityCriteria":51,"healthyVolunteers":52,"sex":16,"minAge":53,"maxAge":54,"enrollmentInfo":55,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":57,"phases":4,"briefSummary":58,"conditions":59,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":62,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":63,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":64,"startDateStruct":66,"completionDateStruct":68,"leadSponsor":70,"locationsCount":71},"100579833","movement-dynamics-of-knee-osteoarthritis-and-total-knee-replacement-100579833","NCT06829433","Movement Dynamics of Knee Osteoarthritis and Total Knee Replacement","Quantifying the Movement Dynamics of Adults Living With Total Knee Arthroplasty and Knee Osteoarthritis","MDOA&TKR","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Diagnosed symptomatic bilateral or unilateral knee osteoarthritis, self-reported ability to walk without an aid for 10 minutes and to ascend and descend stairs, no neurological conditions or other musculoskeletal pathology\u002Finjury which would impact walking gait.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Unable to walk at 0.8 m\u002Fs, exclusion based on IMO screening, non-English speaking, lacking ability to consent.",true,"40 Years","85 Years",{"count":56,"type":20},36,"OBSERVATIONAL","This research aims to explore differences in walking and functional movement mechanics, exercise response, and physical activity between people with osteoarthritis (OA), those who have undergone total joint replacement, and healthy individuals.",[60,61],"Knee Osteoarthritis","Total Knee Replacement","RECRUITING","2025-02-19",{"date":65,"type":36},"2025-02-21",{"date":67,"type":36},"2024-05-07",{"date":69,"type":20},"2026-09",{"name":42,"class":43},1,""]
