Following eligibility screening and baseline data collection, participants will be individually randomised in a 1:1 ratio to either the intervention or wait-list control arm by an independent clinical trials unit. Participants allocated to the intervention arm will attend a two-hour co-designed community-based workshop shortly after randomisation, while participants allocated to the control arm will be invited to attend the workshop following the 6-month follow-up period. Due to the nature of the intervention, participants and researchers will not be blinded to allocation.\n\nThe intervention was co-designed in partnership with Black men and includes peer-led discussions on barriers to early diagnosis of prostate cancer, health education delivered by a Black GP, activities aimed at supporting effective communication with healthcare professionals, and video testimonials from prostate cancer survivors, women, and religious leaders.\n\nPrimary outcomes include self-reported discussions with GPs relating to prostate cancer risk, self-reported PSA testing, and GP-recorded PSA testing where participant consent is provided. Secondary outcomes include knowledge of prostate cancer, attitudes towards prostate cancer health checks and PSA testing, and help-seeking behaviours. Data will be collected at baseline, 3-month, and 6-month follow-up.\n\nA qualitative process evaluation involving participants, peer facilitators, and professionals will explore experiences and acceptability of the intervention and inform future implementation and scale-up.",[28],"Prostate Cancer (Diagnosis)",[30,31,32,33],"Prostate Cancer","Early diagnosis","Black men","Participatory research","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-05-26",{"date":37,"type":38},"2026-06-02","ACTUAL",{"date":40,"type":22},"2026-06-01",{"date":42,"type":22},"2028-08-31",{"name":44,"class":45},"University of Sunderland","OTHER",{"id":47,"slug":48,"hasResults":11,"nctId":49,"briefTitle":50,"officialTitle":51,"acronym":52,"eligibilityCriteria":53,"healthyVolunteers":17,"sex":54,"minAge":55,"maxAge":56,"enrollmentInfo":57,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":23,"phases":58,"briefSummary":59,"conditions":60,"keywords":65,"overallStatus":34,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":72,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":73,"startDateStruct":75,"completionDateStruct":77,"leadSponsor":79,"locationsCount":80},"100591496","equita---a-feasibility-trial-of-a-faith-placed-intervention-to-increase-screening-uptake-in-black-adults-100591496","NCT06981182","EQUITA - A Feasibility Trial of a Faith-placed Intervention to Increase Screening Uptake in Black Adults","EQUITy in Black Adult Health (EQUITA) - a Randomised Feasibility Trial of a Co-produced and Faith-placed Intervention to Increase Uptake of Breast, Cervical, Bowel, and AAA Screening in the North East of England, Leeds and Scotland","EQUITA","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Members of participating churches (North East of England, Leeds, Scotland)\n* Self-identify as Black,\n* Female aged 25-74,\n* Male aged 50-74,\n* Not up to date with all screening tests for which they are eligible, e.g., women who are up to date with one form of screening (e.g., breast) will be eligible for recruitment if they are not up to date with others (e.g., cervical or bowel).\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Not a member of participating churches (North East of England, Leeds, Scotland).\n* Individuals who do not self-identify as Black\n* Do not self-identity as Black\n* Females aged outside the range of 25-74\n* Males aged outside the range of 50-74.\n* Individuals who are up to date with all screening tests for which they are eligible.","ALL","25 Years","74 Years",{"count":21,"type":22},[25],"The goal of this randomised feasibility trial is to examine feasibility and acceptability of a co-produced and faith-placed intervention to increase uptake of breast, cervical, bowel, and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening among Black communities in the North East of England, Leeds and Scotland, United Kingdom (UK).\n\nParticipants will be invited to attend a two-hour workshop at each of the three study sites and will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group or the control group.\n\nThis 24-month feasibility study will inform the development of a full-scale randomised-controlled trial co-produced for Black people that uses culturally appropriate messages that support screening for early diagnosis in this underserved group.",[61,62,63,64],"Breast Cancer","Bowel Cancer","Cervical Cancer","Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm",[66,61,62,63,64,67,68,69,70,71],"Cancer screening","Faith-placed intervention","Black adults","Randomised Controlled Trial","Feasibility study","Faith-based","2025-05-12",{"date":74,"type":38},"2025-05-20",{"date":76,"type":22},"2025-09-01",{"date":78,"type":22},"2027-02-28",{"name":44,"class":45},3,""]
