Participants, aged 21-30, will attend two laboratory sessions approximately one week apart, participating as part of a dyad (pair). During one session, they will consume an alcoholic beverage, while in the other, they will receive a control beverage, with the order of conditions randomized. This design facilitates direct within-participant comparisons of behaviors and neural activity in intoxicated versus sober states.\n\nTo achieve these aims, the study employs EEG technology to explore intra-brain and inter-brain dynamics during social interactions. Additionally, validated self-report questionnaires will capture data on mood, social bonding, and other psychological variables. The findings are expected to enhance understanding of alcohol's role in social reward processes and contribute to developing evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies for alcohol use disorder.",[27,28,29,30,31,32],"Alcohol Drinking","Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD)","Alcohol Intoxication","Alcohol; Harmful Use","Alcoholism","Binge Drinking","RECRUITING","2025-08-22",{"date":36,"type":37},"2025-08-29","ACTUAL",{"date":39,"type":37},"2025-08-09",{"date":41,"type":21},"2028-05",{"name":43,"class":44},"University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign","OTHER",2,{"id":47,"slug":48,"hasResults":11,"nctId":49,"briefTitle":50,"officialTitle":51,"acronym":52,"eligibilityCriteria":53,"healthyVolunteers":15,"sex":16,"minAge":54,"maxAge":55,"enrollmentInfo":56,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":22,"phases":58,"briefSummary":59,"conditions":60,"keywords":62,"overallStatus":33,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":67,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":68,"startDateStruct":70,"completionDateStruct":72,"leadSponsor":74,"locationsCount":76},"100538126","sleep-as-a-mechanism-of-change-in-alcohol-use-100538126","NCT06286774","Sleep as a Mechanism of Change in Alcohol Use","Sleep as a Mechanism of Change in Alcohol Use Outcomes Among Heavy-Drinking Adults","ReTRAIN","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* report heavy drinking in a typical week in the past month\n* meet DSM-5 criteria for Alcohol Use Disorder\n* meet DSM-5 and research diagnostic criteria for Insomnia Disorder\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* ≥50 years\n* unable to provide informed consent\n* report contraindications for CBT-I (mania or seizure disorder)\n* moderate to severe sleep apnea that is untreated\n* have symptoms requiring immediate clinical attention (e.g., psychosis, suicide plan)\n* are already receiving behavioral treatment for insomnia or alcohol use","18 Years","49 Years",{"count":57,"type":21},256,[24],"This project aims to evaluate improvement of insomnia as a mechanism of improvement in alcohol use outcomes.",[61,30],"Insomnia",[63,64,65,66],"alcohol","drinking","sleep","insomnia","2025-07-18",{"date":69,"type":37},"2025-07-22",{"date":71,"type":37},"2024-03-02",{"date":73,"type":21},"2028-05-30",{"name":75,"class":44},"University of Missouri-Columbia",1,{"id":78,"slug":79,"hasResults":11,"nctId":80,"briefTitle":81,"officialTitle":81,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":82,"healthyVolunteers":15,"sex":16,"minAge":54,"maxAge":18,"enrollmentInfo":83,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":22,"phases":85,"briefSummary":86,"conditions":87,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":89,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":90,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":91,"startDateStruct":93,"completionDateStruct":95,"leadSponsor":97,"locationsCount":76},"100542042","preventing-alcohol-use-disorders-and-alcohol-related-harms-in-pacific-islander-young-adults-100542042","NCT06337721","Preventing Alcohol Use Disorders and Alcohol-Related Harms in Pacific Islander Young Adults","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n1. Alcohol consumption has been on the rise the past 25 years, especially in Norway. The highest increase is found in older adults, in line with the development in most other countries in the western world. Older adults have a higher risk for alcohol related health problems, due to age related physiological changes, medical conditions and medications. Still, alcohol use is seldom addressed for older people. This means that older people rarely receive help to change alcohol habits.\n\nNorwegian health authorities have issued mandates ordering the regional health trusts to implement strategies in somatic hospital wards, mental health services and drug treatment services to identify and treat alcohol and drug problems affecting the patients' health.\n\nIn this observational study we will explore patient trajectories three years prior to and three years after an admittance to hospital where risky or harmful alcohol consumption is identified and brief interventions are delivered. Hospitals that have implemented such strategies are invited to the study. Patient trajectories are studied in national health registries. This will provide important knowledge on what characterizes the patients identified, and what happens after they have received a brief intervention related to a hospital admittance.",[112,30,113,114],"Alcohol Consumption","Health Risk Behaviors","Alcohol Dependence","2023-11-21",{"date":117,"type":37},"2023-11-24",{"date":119,"type":37},"2019-10-23",{"date":121,"type":21},"2030-12",{"name":123,"class":124},"Helse Stavanger HF","OTHER_GOV"]
