It is also evaluating whether there may be differences in terms of side effects.\n\nParticipants will be randomly assigned to either the treatment as usual group (i.e., taking antipsychotic daily) or the extended dosing group (i.e., taking antipsychotic one day on, one day off). That means, like flipping a coin, there is a 50\u002F50 chance that participants will continue on daily dosing of your antipsychotic or have it switched to every other day dosing.\n\nThis study will last for 1 year. Participants will be evaluated at the beginning and every two weeks during the first 6 months, with visits once every 4 weeks for the final 6 months. In total, participants will make 22 visits over 52 weeks to the investigator's office.\n\nThe investigators hypothesize that with ED, there will be no change in symptom severity but improvement in the frequency and severity of side effects, wellbeing, and functioning.",[26,27,28,29],"Schizophrenia and Related Disorders","Drug Administration Schedule","Drug Therapy","Antipsychotic Agents",[31,32,33,34,35],"Extended Dosing","Alternate day dosing","Olanzapine","Risperidone","Paliperidone","RECRUITING","2026-04-08",{"date":39,"type":40},"2026-04-13","ACTUAL",{"date":42,"type":40},"2022-06-06",{"date":44,"type":20},"2028-09-30",{"name":46,"class":47},"Centre for Addiction and Mental Health","OTHER",1,{"id":50,"slug":51,"hasResults":11,"nctId":52,"briefTitle":53,"officialTitle":54,"acronym":55,"eligibilityCriteria":56,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":16,"minAge":57,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":58,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":21,"phases":60,"briefSummary":62,"conditions":63,"keywords":69,"overallStatus":36,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":75,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":76,"startDateStruct":78,"completionDateStruct":80,"leadSponsor":82,"locationsCount":84},"100504026","patient-centred-deprescribing-of-psychotropic-sedative-and-anticholinergic-medication-in-elderly-patients-with-polypharmacy-100504026","NCT05842928","Patient-centred Deprescribing of Psychotropic, Sedative and Anticholinergic Medication in Elderly Patients With Polypharmacy","Patient-centred Deprescribing of Psychotropic, Sedative and Anticholinergic Medication in Elderly Patients With Polypharmacy: a Cluster-randomised Trial","PARTNER","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Aged 65 years or older\n* Patient is capable of giving consent\n* GP contact in the quarter prior to inclusion\n* Current use of ≥ 5 drugs, including ≥ 1 PSA-PIM (hypnotics, opioids, gabapentinoids, antipsychotics, antidepressants, anticholinergic urospasmolytics) with a treatment duration of ≥ 6 months\n* Willingness to select a regular pharmacy for the study period\n* Consent to data exchange between GP and community pharmacy\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Terminal illness (life expectancy \\\u003C 6 months)\n* Current treatment of pain associated with cancer\n* Other serious physical illness or mental distress (e.g. bereavement) that makes participation in the study impossible (according to the GP's assessment)\n* Psychiatric illness or addiction that makes participation in the study impossible (according to the GP's assessment)\n* Unable to meet the requirements of the study (participation in telephone or written questionnaires, visits to the GP practice or community pharmacy, alone or with the help of caregivers for physical infirmity)\n* Current participation in research projects on medication safety or geriatric medicine","65 Years",{"count":59,"type":20},352,[61],"NA","The PARTNER study is a multicentre, two-arm, pragmatic cluster-randomised trial evaluating the impact of a focused and patient-centred cooperation between general practitioners (GPs) and community pharmacists (PARTNER intervention) on reductions in the use of psychotropic, sedative and anticholinergic potentially inappropriate medication (PSA-PIM) compared to a control intervention.
