One important contributing factor to high blood pressure is reduced availability of nitric oxide (NO). Therefore, NO is an important molecule in maintaining healthy blood vessel function.\n\nDietary nitrate, found in leafy greens, can serve as an alternative source of nitric oxide in the body. After ingestion, nitrate is converted to nitrite by bacteria residing in the oral cavity. Nitrite can subsequently be converted to NO when swallowed. Therefore, this nitrate-nitrite-nitric oxide pathway is dependent on oral bacteria.\n\nThis study aims to assess whether rinsing the mouth with a nitrate-rich mouth rinse influences blood pressure in healthy adults. Also, concentrations of nitrate and nitrite in plasma and saliva will be measured following the nitrate-mouth rinse exposure.",[28],"Blood Pressure Regulation",[30,31,32,33,34,35,36,37],"Nitrate reduction","Nitrate supplement","Blood pressure regulation","Plasma nitrate","Plasma nitrite","Saliva nitrate","Saliva nitrite","Mouth rinse","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-05-19",{"date":41,"type":42},"2026-05-22","ACTUAL",{"date":44,"type":22},"2026-04",{"date":46,"type":22},"2028-12",{"name":48,"class":49},"Göteborg University","OTHER",1,{"id":52,"slug":53,"hasResults":11,"nctId":54,"briefTitle":55,"officialTitle":56,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":57,"healthyVolunteers":17,"sex":58,"minAge":59,"maxAge":60,"enrollmentInfo":61,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":23,"phases":63,"briefSummary":64,"conditions":65,"keywords":68,"overallStatus":73,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":74,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":75,"startDateStruct":77,"completionDateStruct":79,"leadSponsor":81,"locationsCount":50},"100573206","improving-sympathetic-activity-hot-flashes-and-sleep-in-midlife-women-using-inspiratory-muscle-strength-training-100573206","NCT06743269","Improving Sympathetic Activity, Hot Flashes, and Sleep in Midlife Women Using Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training","Time-efficient Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training for Improving Sympathetic Activity, Hot Flashes, and Sleep in Midlife Women","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Females aged 45-60 with hot flashes.\n* Participants will be recruited from Rochester, MN and surrounding areas.\n* Non-smokers.\n* BMI \\\u003C 40kg\u002Fm\\^2.\n* No history of cardiovascular disease, except for hypertension.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Detailed medical and social histories will be collected.
