At the moment, there aren't any good ways to measure this pain in children and young people. The investigators are developing two questionnaires to help: one for patients to fill out themselves and another for parents or healthcare professionals to complete for younger children and young people who cannot explain their pain for themselves.\n\nThe investigators plan to work with 210 people across hospitals and hospices in England and Wales. This includes children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses, their caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The investigators have already made a first version of the questionnaires.\n\nThe project has three main Studies:\n\nIn Study 1, the investigators will talk to 5-10 young patients and 5-10 caregivers about their experiences with breakthrough pain. The investigators will use their feedback to improve the questionnaires.\n\nIn Study 2, the investigators will ask 5-10 patients, 5-10 caregivers, and 5-10 healthcare professionals to fill out the questionnaires while speaking their thoughts out loud. This will help the investigators find any parts that are confusing or difficult to understand.\n\nIn Study 3, the investigators will test how well the questionnaires works. 80 patients, 40 caregivers, and 40 healthcare professionals will complete the questionnaires three different times to make sure they measure breakthrough pain as accurately as possible.\n\nThese questionnaire will be useful for hospitals and hospices across England and Wales to help them better manage pain, including breakthrough pain, in patients aged 3 months to 25 years who have life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.",[26,83,84,85,86],"Palliative Medicine","Oncology Pain","Pediatric ALL","Young People",[88,89,90,91,92],"Breakthrough pain","paediatrics","paediatric pain","palliative care","pain assessment","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2025-01-17",{"date":96,"type":39},"2025-01-24",{"date":98,"type":20},"2025-01-20",{"date":100,"type":20},"2025-12",{"name":102,"class":46},"University of Southampton",{"id":104,"slug":105,"hasResults":11,"nctId":106,"briefTitle":107,"officialTitle":108,"acronym":109,"eligibilityCriteria":110,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":111,"maxAge":112,"enrollmentInfo":113,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":21,"phases":115,"briefSummary":117,"conditions":118,"keywords":120,"overallStatus":35,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":122,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":123,"startDateStruct":125,"completionDateStruct":127,"leadSponsor":129,"locationsCount":47},"100363356","phase-3-development-of-variable-volume-automated-mandatory-boluses-for-patient-controlled-epidural-analgesia-during-labour-100363356","NCT04011150","Development of Variable Volume Automated Mandatory Boluses for Patient-controlled Epidural Analgesia During Labour","Development of Variable Volume Automated Mandatory Boluses (VVAMB) for Patient-controlled Epidural Analgesia During Labour and Delivery","VVAMB","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Healthy (American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status 1 and 2) primiparous parturient at term (≥36 weeks gestation);\n* Singleton fetus;\n* In early labor stage (cervical dilation ≤5cm);\n* Request labor epidural analgesia and able to administer combined spinal epidural analgesia (CSEA) according to protocol.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Non-cephalic fetal presentation;\n* Obstetric (e.g. pre-eclampsia, premature rupture of amniotic membranes for more than 48 hours, gestational diabetes on insulin, pregnancy-induced hypertension on medication) and uncontrolled medical (e.g. cardiac disease) complications;\n* Have contraindications to neuraxial blockade or have received parenteral opioids within last 2 hours;\n* Dural puncture\u002F suspected dural puncture at initiation of CSEA.","21 Years","50 Years",{"count":114,"type":20},216,[116],"PHASE3","A novel epidural delivery regimen was developed: Variable volume automated mandatory bolus (AMB) (VVAMB) will advance individualisation of labour epidural analgesia, by which a larger volume of bolus may contribute to better spread of the local anaesthetics within brief period and thereby reduces the chances of motor blockade that could reduce instrumental deliveries.",[119,26],"Labor Pain",[119,26,121],"Infusion pump","2024-10-08",{"date":124,"type":39},"2024-10-09",{"date":126,"type":39},"2020-08-11",{"date":128,"type":20},"2026-08-31",{"name":130,"class":131},"KK Women's and Children's Hospital","OTHER_GOV"]
