The surgery uses a technique in which the muscle from the cheek is used to close the gap and repair the cleft and therefore improve speech. The study will answer the question of whether this technique will provide better closure and improved speech in the participants who have not received early treatment. The participants will have the surgery and then have MRI scans 6 months after surgery while resting and speaking specific sounds. Complete speech assessments will also be done 6 months after surgery.",[26,27,28,29],"Cleft Palate","Cleft Palate, Unilateral, Complete","Cleft Lip, Cleft Alveolus and Cleft Palate","Cleft Palate Repair",[31,32,33,34],"cleft palate","cleft palate repair","velopharyngeal insufficiency","magnetic resonance imaging","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-04-05",{"date":38,"type":39},"2026-04-07","ACTUAL",{"date":41,"type":20},"2026-06",{"date":43,"type":20},"2027-06",{"name":45,"class":46},"Cairo University","OTHER",1,{"id":49,"slug":50,"hasResults":11,"nctId":51,"briefTitle":52,"officialTitle":52,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":53,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":16,"minAge":54,"maxAge":55,"enrollmentInfo":56,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":21,"phases":58,"briefSummary":59,"conditions":60,"keywords":66,"overallStatus":35,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":76,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":77,"startDateStruct":79,"completionDateStruct":81,"leadSponsor":83,"locationsCount":47},"100609847","early-intervention-in-infants-with-unrepaired-cleft-palate-language-palatal-function-and-articulation-100609847","NCT07219901","Early Intervention in Infants With Unrepaired Cleft Palate: Language, Palatal Function, and Articulation.","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Infants with unrepaired cleft palate (with or without cleft lip)\n* Aged between 6 and 10 months at the time of study commencement\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Medically fragile status that would preclude participation in this community-based study.\n* Palatoplasty completed.\n* Aged over one year\n* Infants with cleft lip only","6 Months","12 Months",{"count":57,"type":20},200,[23],"The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if teaching speech skills to infants with cleft palates, prior to palate repair, will help them to develop speech and language skills. It will also learn about whether the skills are linked to fewer speech sound difficulties when they start school. The main questions it aims to answer are:\n\nDo standard, early intervention techniques to promote language development, that are used in children who are late talkers, work in infants with cleft palates? Will infants with cleft palates increase the number of sounds they use after targeted intervention? Can infants attempt to make stop sounds, like b and p, after targeted intervention? Can infants with cleft palate learn new words more quickly when they are used with gestures?\n\nParticipants will:\n\nParticipate in a baseline evaluation of speech and language skills, either in person, or via Telehealth.\n\nAttend the clinic for twice-weekly visits, for six weeks, to learn techniques to help their infants develop their speech and language skills, in a group setting with other families of infants with cleft palate.\n\nParticipate in a final evaluation of speech and language skills, either in person, or via Telehealth.",[61,62,63,26,64,65,29],"Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate","Cleft Lip Palate","Cleft Lip and\u002For Palate","Cleft Palate Children","Cleft Palates",[67,68,69,70,71,72,73,74,75],"cleft-type speech","hypernasality","palatal function","compensatory speech patterns","obligatory speech patterns","velopharyngeal dysfunction","communication","language","speech","2025-10-20",{"date":78,"type":39},"2025-10-22",{"date":80,"type":20},"2025-10-21",{"date":82,"type":20},"2027-01-31",{"name":84,"class":46},"Old Dominion University"]
