Such deficits-including declines in memory, learning, processing speed, and executive function-reduce daily living abilities and increase risks of falls and depression.\n\nFunctional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) enables real-time monitoring of oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin fluctuations, reflecting brain network function. This study aims to identify affected neural network regions in anemic patients and visualize connectivity changes using heatmaps and arc-based mapping. The findings will support early detection of cognitive impairment and guide precise clinical interventions, ultimately informing individualized treatment strategies to enhance therapeutic outcomes and quality of life.",[26,27,28,29],"Aplastic Anemia","Myelodysplastic Syndromes","Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia","Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy","RECRUITING","2026-05-05",{"date":33,"type":34},"2026-05-11","ACTUAL",{"date":36,"type":34},"2025-10-11",{"date":38,"type":22},"2028-12-31",{"name":40,"class":41},"Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital, China","OTHER",1,{"id":44,"slug":45,"hasResults":11,"nctId":46,"briefTitle":47,"officialTitle":48,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":49,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":50,"maxAge":51,"enrollmentInfo":52,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":54,"phases":55,"briefSummary":57,"conditions":58,"keywords":67,"overallStatus":30,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":69,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":70,"startDateStruct":72,"completionDateStruct":74,"leadSponsor":76,"locationsCount":42},"100571845","integrative-medicine-in-pain-management-in-sickle-cell-disease-20-100571845","NCT06725550","Integrative Medicine in Pain Management in Sickle Cell Disease, 2.0","Integrative Medicine in Pain Management in Sickle Cell Disease: Assessing the Clinical Efficacy and Neurobiological Impact With Acupuncture, 2.0","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Any gender\n* 14-17 (Adolescents) and 18-80 (Adults) years old\n* Right-handed\n* Either outpatient or inpatient or status changing between each other\n* Have been diagnosed with SCD (includes but not limited to SS, SC or other type) and experiencing chronic pain in the past 6 months or vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC) in the past 12 months.\n* Analgesic therapy prescribed by primary hematologists (or physicians for emergency or primary care) including pain-relieving medications (e.g. Morphine, coderin, Fentanyl, Oxycodone), Hydroxyurea (e.g. Droxia, Hydrea, Siklos), L-glutamine oral powder (Endari), Crizanlizumab (Adakveo), Voxelotor (Oxbryta), and\u002For other palliative treatment allowed, not required.\n* Willing to limit the current and the introduction of any new medications or treatment modalities for control of pain symptoms during the study visits.\n* Able to travel to the study site for participating scheduled visits (questionnaires, QST, EEG and MRI) and receive acupuncture treatments up to two times weekly for 5 weeks as scheduled.\n* We will recruit without regard to ethnicity, however, due to the genetic nature of SCD, subjects will primarily be African-American or of African descent, although there are individuals with SCD who come from Hispanic, southern European, Middle Eastern, or Asian Indian backgrounds.
