The investigators will compare subcutaneous anesthesia, injections of anesthesia under the skin, to a method called erector spinae plane block (ESPB). An ESPB injection involves placing local anesthesia along the muscles and bones in the back, using a special type of x-ray called fluoroscopy for guidance. The Investigators will use patient reported outcomes (PROs) and track subjects' opioid usage to find out if there is a difference between ESPB and subcutaneous anesthesia. The investigators hypothesize that patients who get ESPB injections will use less opioids and report less pain after lumbar fusion surgery compared to patients who receive subcutaneous anesthesia injections.",[26,27,28,29],"Fusion of Spine, Lumbar Region","Anesthesia, Local","Pain, Postoperative","Opioid Use",[31,32,33,34],"Erector Spinae Plane Block","Spinal Fusion","Patient Reported Outcomes","Opioid Usage","RECRUITING","2026-03-12",{"date":38,"type":39},"2026-03-16","ACTUAL",{"date":41,"type":39},"2024-09-13",{"date":43,"type":20},"2027-07-01",{"name":45,"class":46},"University of Massachusetts, Worcester","OTHER",1,{"id":49,"slug":50,"hasResults":11,"nctId":51,"briefTitle":52,"officialTitle":53,"acronym":54,"eligibilityCriteria":55,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":16,"minAge":17,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":56,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":21,"phases":58,"briefSummary":59,"conditions":60,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":35,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":61,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":62,"startDateStruct":64,"completionDateStruct":66,"leadSponsor":68,"locationsCount":47},"100516261","echo-guided-transverse-abdominal-plane-block-tap-in-anterior-lumbar-arthrodesis-alif-100516261","NCT06002217","Echo-guided Transverse Abdominal Plane Block (TAP) in Anterior Lumbar Arthrodesis (ALIF)","Echo-guided Transverse Abdominal Plane Block (TAP) in Anterior Lumbar Arthrodesis (ALIF): Randomized, Double-blind, Controlled Trial.","TAP ALIF","Inclusion Criteria:\n\nPatient affiliated or entitled to a social security plan.\n\n* Patient who has been informed about the study and has co-signed a consent form with the investigator. consent to participate in the study.\n* Patients over 18 years of age scheduled for abdominal disc surgery on one or two levels.\n* Patient with ASA criteria 1, 2 and 3.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients with intolerance or contraindication to paracetamol, anti-inflammatory or morphine.\n* Patients allergic to local anesthetics.\n* Pregnant or breast-feeding patient.\n* patient undergoing cancer or trauma surgery trauma.\n* Patient participating in another interventional study.\n* Patient with a history of lumbar arthrodesis.\n* Patient refusing to sign consent form.\n* Patient unable to give informed consent.\n* Patient under court protection, guardianship or trusteeship.\n* Patient not available for study follow-up.",{"count":57,"type":20},80,[23],"The goal of this interventional study is to is to compare the effect of a tap block versus a placebo in patients undergoing anterior lumbar spine surgery.\n\nThe main question it aims to answer :\n\n• whether tap block can reduce the need for postoperative pain medication Participants will be randomized into two groups and all postoperative pain medication will be recorded over 3 days.\n\nResearchers will compare tap block vs placebo to see if it reduces postoperative pain.",[26],"2026-01-02",{"date":63,"type":39},"2026-01-06",{"date":65,"type":39},"2024-02-05",{"date":67,"type":20},"2026-10",{"name":69,"class":46},"Clinique Saint Jean, France"]
