It will also learn about the psychological effects of ACT on participants.\n\nThe main questions it aims to answer are:\n\n1. Does telephone-based ACT increase the number of participants who quit drinking, as confirmed by a urine test?\n2. Does telephone-based ACT help participants reduce their alcohol consumption and improve their psychological flexibility?\n\nResearchers will compare telephone-based ACT to a telephone-based social support programme to see if ACT works to help young adults quit drinking.\n\nParticipants will:\n\n1. Receive telephone-based ACT or social support once a week for 6 weeks Complete questionnaires about their alcohol use and psychological flexibility.\n2. Keep a record of their daily alcohol consumption throughout the study using a standardised diary method.\n3. Provide a urine sample at the 6-month follow-up if they report having quit drinking",[27,28],"Hazardous Drinking","Harmful Alcohol Use",[30,31,32,33,34],"Acceptance and Commitment Therapy","Telephone-based intervention","Alcohol use","Psychological flexibility","Randomized controlled trial","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-05-26",{"date":38,"type":39},"2026-06-02","ACTUAL",{"date":41,"type":21},"2026-08-01",{"date":43,"type":21},"2029-08-01",{"name":45,"class":46},"The Hong Kong Polytechnic University","OTHER"]
