There are different ways to perform a mastectomy. In some patients, a nipple-sparing mastectomy may be suitable, where the nipple and surrounding breast skin are preserved. This approach allows for immediate breast reconstruction with an implant, which is placed at the same time as the mastectomy to restore the breast shape. A newer technique called robotic single-port nipple-sparing mastectomy uses advanced robotic technology to remove breast tissue through a small hidden incision at the side of the chest. This method may reduce scarring, pain, and recovery time, while preserving the appearance and sensation of the breast.

However, while early studies suggest this technique is safe and effective, more evidence is needed to compare it directly with standard surgeries.

This study will compare:

* Robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy
* Standard (open) nipple-sparing mastectomy We will assess patient satisfaction, body image, physical and emotional well-being, and surgical outcomes over 12 months following surgery. By taking part, you are helping researchers evaluate whether robotic and nipple-sparing approaches offer measurable benefits to patients.

Taking part in this study will not affect your surgery or the care you receive. You will be given the best treatment available based on your individual medical needs, whether or not you decide to participate in the research.",[27,28,29,30],"Breast Reconstruction","Breast Cancer","Hereditary Breast/Ovarian Cancer (brca1, brca2)","Robotic Surgery","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2025-11-14
2025-11-19","ACTUAL
2025-12-31
2028-12-31
Beaumont Hospital","OTHER
"100057410","specimen-and-data-study-for-ovarian-cancer-early-detection-and-prevention-100057410","NCT00005095","Specimen and Data Study for Ovarian Cancer Early Detection and Prevention","Northwestern Ovarian Cancer Early Detection & Prevention Program: A Specimen and Data Study","DISEASE CHARACTERISTICS:

* Meets one of the following criteria:

  * Considered to be at increased risk for developing ovarian cancer, as defined by one of the following:

    * Has at least one first-degree relative (mother, sister, or daughter) with ovarian, primary peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer
    * Has at least two first or second degree relatives diagnosed before age 50 with either ovarian, primary peritoneal, fallopian tube, and/or pancreatic cancer who have tested positive for hereditary cancer syndrome that includes an increased risk of gynecologic cancer (e.g., BRCA1/2 or Lynch Syndrome)or have increased risk as deemed by a certified genetic counselor
    * A personal or family history of a hereditary cancer syndrome that includes an increased risk of gynecologic cancer
    * Increased risk as deemed by a certified genetic counselor
  * Undergoing surgery for a gynecologic condition, including any of the following:

    * Diagnosis of a reproductive cancer
    * Benign gynecological condition (e.g., uterine leiomyomata, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or follicular or corpus luteum ovarian cysts)
    * Highly suspicious adnexal mass
    * Risk-reducing prophylactic oophorectomy

PATIENT CHARACTERISTICS:

Age

* Between the ages of 18 and 80",true,"80 Years
6000,"OBSERVATIONAL","RATIONALE: To improve strategies for detection and prevention of early-stage disease.

PURPOSE: This research study is collecting specimens and data to develop better methods for early detection and prevention of ovarian cancer among the high risk population and those who have the disease.",[57,58,59,29,60,61,62,63,64],"Cervical Cancer","Endometrial Cancer","Fallopian Tube Cancer","Ovarian Cancer","Sarcoma","Uterine Leiomyomata","Vaginal Cancer","Vulvar Cancer",[66,67,68,69,70,71,72,73,74,75,76,77],"ovarian epithelial cancer","hereditary breast/ovarian cancer (BRCA1, BRCA2)","fallopian tube cancer","ovarian germ cell tumor","ovarian sarcoma","ovarian stromal cancer","endometrial cancer","uterine sarcoma","vaginal cancer","cervical cancer","vulvar cancer","uterine leiomyomata","RECRUITING","2025-02-26
2025-02-28
2000-03
2040-12
Northwestern University",1]
