The main questions it aims to answer are:\n\n* Does hydrogen gas reduce oxidative stress and changes in pulmonary function associated with prolonged hyperbaric oxygen exposure?\n* What are the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of pulmonary oxygen toxicity?\n\nResearchers will compare oxygen-enriched breathing gas with 1-2% hydrogen to oxygen-enriched gas with 1-2% nitrogen (control) to see if hydrogen provides protective effects against POT during hyperbaric exposure.\n\nParticipants will:\n\n* Complete two hyperbaric exposure sessions (hydrogen vs. nitrogen), each lasting 240 minutes at 1.75 ATA\n* Undergo pulmonary function tests and sampling of blod and urin before and after each session\n* Serve as their own controls in a double-blind, randomized, crossover study design",[28,29,30,31,32,33,34],"Oxygen Toxicity","Oxidative Stress","Hyperoxia","Hyperbaric Oxygen","Healthy Subjects (HS)","Diving Medicine","Hydrogen-oxygen Gas",[36,37,38,39,31,40,41],"Pulmonary Oxygen Toxicity","Hydrogen Gas","Diving Physiology","Lung Function","Human Study","Military Divers","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2025-12-01",{"date":45,"type":46},"2025-12-04","ACTUAL",{"date":48,"type":22},"2026-01",{"date":50,"type":22},"2030-12",{"name":52,"class":53},"Blekinge Institute of Technology","OTHER",{"id":55,"slug":56,"hasResults":11,"nctId":57,"briefTitle":58,"officialTitle":58,"acronym":59,"eligibilityCriteria":60,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":61,"maxAge":62,"enrollmentInfo":63,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":65,"phases":4,"briefSummary":66,"conditions":67,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":69,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":70,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":71,"startDateStruct":73,"completionDateStruct":75,"leadSponsor":77,"locationsCount":79},"100470972","oxidative-lipidomic-biomarkers-during-mechanical-ventilation-in-critically-ill-patients-oxy-bal-100470972","NCT05412810","Oxidative Lipidomic Biomarkers During Mechanical Ventilation in Critically Ill Patients (OXY-BAL).","OXY-BAL","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n• Adults age =\\> 18 and needing Mechanical ventilation in Intensive Care unit expected atleast for 48 hours\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* 1.Mechanical ventilation, only needed for performing procedures- bronchoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, colonoscopy, or others\n* 2)Chronic respiratory failure prior to admission;\n* 3)Hemoptysis or diffuse alveolar hemorrhage\n* 4)Medication use such as N acetyl cysteine; aspirin, fish oil supplements.\n* 5)Primary team prohibits bronchoscopy for a specific clinical indication or safety;","18 Years","110 Years",{"count":64,"type":22},200,"OBSERVATIONAL","The aim of this study is to identify and determine the levels of oxidized lipids and lipid mediators following exposure to oxygen supplementation during mechanical ventilation by oxidative lipidomics.
