One reason for poor outcomes is late diagnosis, as the majority of gastric cancers in the United States are diagnosed at a relatively advanced stage where curative resection is unlikely. Gastric precursors (such as atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia) are precancerous changes to the stomach mucosa which increases risk for subsequent gastric cancer.\n\nThe Gastric Precancerous Conditions Study (GAPS) is an observational study of patients at elevated risk for gastric cancer. Investigators seek to recruit patients from endoscopy unit of Stanford Health Care, a large academic network of hospitals and clinics serving Northern California. Investigators will recruit patients who are both symptomatic (e.g. dyspepsia) and asymptomatic (e.g. referred for screening), and individuals both with known precursor lesions (such as intestinal metaplasia) or at high risk for carrying precursor lesions. A component of the study is long-term follow-up of individuals with gastric precursors. This is to understand their risk factors for histologic progression and regression. During both index and subsequent endoscopies, the study team will collect biospecimens (e.g. blood, saliva, gastric tissue).",[25,26,27,28],"Gastric Cancer","Intestinal Metaplasia of Gastric Mucosa","Helicobacter Pylori Infection","Atrophic Gastritis","RECRUITING","2025-12-13",{"date":32,"type":33},"2025-12-16","ACTUAL",{"date":35,"type":33},"2018-07-30",{"date":37,"type":21},"2028-06-30",{"name":39,"class":40},"Stanford University","OTHER",1,{"id":43,"slug":44,"hasResults":11,"nctId":45,"briefTitle":46,"officialTitle":46,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":47,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":16,"minAge":48,"maxAge":49,"enrollmentInfo":50,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":22,"phases":4,"briefSummary":52,"conditions":53,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":29,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":56,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":57,"startDateStruct":59,"completionDateStruct":61,"leadSponsor":63,"locationsCount":5},"100612762","artificial-intelligence-in-assessing-gastric-intestinal-metaplasia-via-the-eggim-score-100612762","NCT07257796","Artificial Intelligence in Assessing Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia Via the EGGIM Score","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* patients aged 40-75 years who undergo the IEE examination\n* patients who voluntarily sign the informed consent form\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* patients with severe cardiac, cerebral, pulmonary or renal dysfunction or psychiatric disorders who cannot participate in gastroscopy\n* patients with previous surgical procedures on the stomach","40 Years","75 Years",{"count":51,"type":21},3000,"The endoscopic grading system (EGGIM) has been widely used to assess the extent of gastric intestinal metaplasia during endoscopy.
