The investigative group has shown its promise in revealing previously unidentified or unspecified pain generators in various musculoskeletal pain conditions. The investigators have also demonstrated the feasibility of visualizing the structural changes between unloaded and loaded knee joints with MRI, which can be easily adopted in the current PET\u002FMRI setting. The main challenge in the proposed \\[18F\\]FDG PET\u002FMRI approach is to differentiate the normal uptake of FDG for metabolic changes by weight-bearing from abnormal changes indicating eventual pain aggravation by weight-bearing and knee-flexion. In some older adults, venous congestion may contribute to knee or peri-knee pain, which is often misattributed to degenerative joint disease alone. Evidence on whether varicose vein treatment can relieve knee pain in very elderly patients (aged 80 years or older) is limited.\n\nThis prospective cohort study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of endovenous ablation (EVA) for improving knee pain in elderly patients with symptomatic varicose veins. The study will include participants aged 80 years or older who present with both lower extremity varicose veins and knee joint pain. Eligible patients will undergo endovenous thermal ablation (radiofrequency or endovenous laser ablation) as the primary intervention.\n\nParticipants will be assessed at baseline, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after treatment. The primary outcome is the change in knee pain intensity measured by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) from baseline to 6 months. Adult inpatients at any hospital in the Greater Victoria Area or referred to Victoria General hospital for rehabilitation with the chief complaint of an acute neurological condition (within sixteen weeks) including but not limited to stroke and traumatic brain injury. People that have had a stroke or neurological event within sixteen weeks but have been discharged to outpatient rehab at Victoria General Hospital are also candidates\n2. In addition to their chief complaint, are also affected by one or both of the following\n\n   1. Hemiplegic shoulder pain,\n   2. Knee pain due to osteoarthritis\n3. Patients who are already candidate for cryoneurolysis.\n4. Ability to attend testing sessions, comply with testing protocols and provide either written or verbal informed consent. If necessary, a witness will be asked to sign the consent form and confirm the participant signature. For those patients who do not have the capacity to sign the consent form(Based on evaluation by PI or the recorded assessment by their physician in their medical charts) the designated care provider or family member will be asked to sign the ICF on behalf of them.
