However, whether mucus plugs contribute to secondary pulmonary fibrosis remains unclear. This single-center, prospective, case-control study aims to investigate the relationship between airway mucus plugs and lung fibrosis in patients with COPD undergoing lung cancer surgery.\n\nDuring surgery, distal non-tumorous lung tissues and airway mucus will be collected for histological and molecular analyses. Mucus plug burden will be quantified using AB-PAS staining, and fibrosis will be assessed using Masson staining. Expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers, fibrotic markers, and the mechanosensitive ion channel Piezo1 will also be measured. COPD patients (FEV₁\u002FFVC \\\u003C0.70) will be compared with non-COPD surgical controls.\n\nThe study aims to clarify whether mucus plugs are associated with increased fibrosis and to explore the potential involvement of mechanical-signaling pathways, including Piezo1 activation. Findings may provide new clinical and pathological evidence for mucus-induced fibrotic remodeling in COPD and help identify novel therapeutic targets.",[26],"2025-11-14",{"date":55,"type":32},"2025-11-19",{"date":57,"type":32},"2025-10-30",{"date":59,"type":20},"2026-06-30",{"name":61,"class":39},"Ming Zhong",1,{"id":64,"slug":65,"hasResults":11,"nctId":66,"briefTitle":67,"officialTitle":67,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":68,"healthyVolunteers":69,"sex":16,"minAge":17,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":70,"targetDuration":72,"studyType":50,"phases":4,"briefSummary":73,"conditions":74,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":28,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":78,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":79,"startDateStruct":81,"completionDateStruct":83,"leadSponsor":85,"locationsCount":62},"100468652","pulmonary-fibrosis-foundation-community-registry-100468652","NCT05382572","Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Community Registry","Inclusion Criteria:\n\nIn order to be eligible to participate in this study, an individual must meet all of the following criteria:\n\n1.
