Negative psychological factors (NPFs), such as catastrophizing and negative affectivity, further compound this impairment. Yet, few studies have examined strategies in daily life that directly target somatic symptoms and their dynamic relationship with NPFs. The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate if an Ecological Momentary Intervention (EMI) using music listening and cognitive reappraisal can reduce the intensity of and impairment due to somatic symptoms in 40 individuals with Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD), aged 18-65 years.\n\nParticipants will report symptom intensity, impairment, and NPFs up to four times daily via a smartphone app over a six-week period. Using an intraindividual randomized controlled design, during weeks two to five, participants will be randomly assigned in the ratio of 50:25:25 to no intervention, music listening, and cognitive reappraisal, both at fixed times (evening measurement) and during episodes of acute somatic impairment.",[26,27,28,29,30],"Somatic Symptom Disorder (DSM-5)","Impairment","Psychological Factors","Persistent Physical Symptoms","Medically Unexplained Symptoms",[32,33,34,35,36,37],"Ecological Momentary Intervention","Persistent Somatic Symptoms","Daily Life","Music","Cognitive reappraisal","Somatic Symptom disorder","RECRUITING","2026-06-09",{"date":41,"type":42},"2026-06-12","ACTUAL",{"date":44,"type":42},"2025-06-26",{"date":46,"type":20},"2026-10",{"name":48,"class":49},"University of Vienna","OTHER",1,{"id":52,"slug":53,"hasResults":11,"nctId":54,"briefTitle":55,"officialTitle":56,"acronym":57,"eligibilityCriteria":58,"healthyVolunteers":59,"sex":15,"minAge":60,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":61,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":63,"phases":4,"briefSummary":64,"conditions":65,"keywords":68,"overallStatus":78,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":79,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":80,"startDateStruct":82,"completionDateStruct":84,"leadSponsor":86,"locationsCount":50},"100560824","mapping-the-healthcare-pathway-to-multidisciplinary-assessment-of-12-25-year-olds-with-somatic-symptom-disorder-100560824","NCT06582173","Mapping the Healthcare Pathway to Multidisciplinary Assessment of 12-25 Year Olds With Somatic Symptom Disorder","Mapping the Healthcare Pathway to Specialised Multidisciplinary Assessment of 12-25 Year Olds With Somatic Symptom Disorder: a Monocentric Descriptive Study Based on Interviews Assisted by a Biographical Grid","PSOMA","Inclusion Criteria:\n\nCriteria relating to the population studied:\n\n* Age between 12 and 25 years old\n* Diagnosis of somatic symptom disorder and derivatives (DSM 5) after specialized multidisciplinary evaluation by the team of the Maison des Adolescents of Cochin hospital (Maison de Solenn).\n\nCriteria relating to the additional population participating in the research:\n\n\\- Being a parent of a subject who has received the diagnosis of somatic symptom disorder and derivatives (DSM 5) after specialized multidisciplinary evaluation at the Maison des Adolescents of Cochin Hospital (Maison de Solenn).\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\nCriteria relating to the population studied:\n\n* Age less than 12 years or greater than 25 years at the time of assessment,\n* Subject presenting ongoing psychiatric decompensation, that is to say a state of mental health breaking with their baseline state and requiring rapid care which does not allow a research interview to be carried out.\n\nCriteria relating to the additional population participating in the research:\n\nNone",true,"12 Years",{"count":62,"type":20},36,"OBSERVATIONAL","This study aims to describe the course of successive care events that follow individuals with somatic symptom disorder until they are assessed by a specialized multidisciplinary team. These persistent physical symptoms (PPS) often include conditions such as chronic pain, fatigue, or gastrointestinal issues, where a psychological component may be involved.\n\nISTDP focuses on identifying and addressing unconscious emotional conflicts, which are thought to contribute to or exacerbate physical symptoms. The therapy encourages patients to recognize and express repressed emotions, such as anger, sadness, or fear, which may manifest somatically if left unresolved.\n\nFor patients with treatment-resistant PPS, ISTDP offers a focused, time-limited intervention aimed at breaking the cycle of emotional suppression and physical symptomatology. The method involves intense therapeutic engagement, fostering a direct experience of emotions in a controlled environment. Through this process, patients often gain emotional awareness and experience symptom relief.\n\nResearch on ISTDP in this population suggests that it can effectively reduce the severity of physical symptoms, improve emotional well-being, and enhance overall functioning when other treatments have not yielded significant results.\n\nFor patients with treatment-resistant PPS, ISTDP offers a focused, time-limited intervention aimed at breaking the cycle of emotional suppression and physical symptomatology.
