First-time patellofemoral dislocation is a significant problem, and the ramifications of recurrence for patients are substantial. Due to the multifactorial nature of the pathoanatomy of patellofemoral instability, it has been difficult to design trials that will show how interventions could affect the natural history of these young patients. No definitive studies have determined whether the surgical reconstruction of the MPFL in patients with mild to moderate pathoanatomic risk factors will decrease the re-dislocation rate after a first-time dislocation. In addition, to date, no synthetic option has provided both biology and strength for ligament augmentation. This innovation may allow for a minimalist approach to keeping the patella centred in the trochlear groove during the healing phase after a first-time dislocation.",[27],"2025-10-21",{"date":70,"type":42},"2025-10-22",{"date":72,"type":42},"2024-01-15",{"date":74,"type":20},"2027-06-30",{"name":76,"class":49},"Banff Sport Medicine Foundation",1,{"id":79,"slug":80,"hasResults":11,"nctId":81,"briefTitle":82,"officialTitle":83,"acronym":84,"eligibilityCriteria":85,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":15,"minAge":59,"maxAge":60,"enrollmentInfo":86,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":63,"phases":88,"briefSummary":89,"conditions":90,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":38,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":92,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":93,"startDateStruct":95,"completionDateStruct":97,"leadSponsor":99,"locationsCount":77},"100497576","should-you-transfer-the-tubercle-100497576","NCT05759039","SHould You TransFer the Tubercle?","A Randomized Clinical Pilot Trial Comparing Isolated Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction to Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction Combined with Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy: SHould You TransFer the Tubercle (SHYFT)?","SHYFT","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Age 13-30 years\n* Symptomatic recurrent lateral patellofemoral instability\n* TT-TG ≥15mm measured on MRI or ≥18mm on CT scan\n* Closed physes (confirmed on knee x-rays)\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Caton-Deschamps ratio ≥ 1.4 on lateral radiographs\n* Femoral anteversion ≥ 25 degrees on diagnostic imaging rotational profile\n* Tibial external rotation ≥ 45 degrees on diagnostic imaging rotational profile\n* High-grade trochlear dysplasia requiring trochleoplasty\n* Significant osteoarthritis on skyline plain imaging (Kellgren Lawrence grade ≥ 2)\n* A chondral lesion of the patellofemoral joint that is undergoing a cartilage restoration procedure.\n* Unable to complete computer-based outcome questionnaires\n* Pregnant (at time of surgery)",{"count":87,"type":20},32,[65],"The aim of this study is to investigate the role of tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO) on the subjective and objective outcomes following medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFL-R) in patients with an increased tibial tubercle-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance with or without patella alta.\n\nThis Pilot RCT will assess the feasibility of conducting this study for:\n\n1.
