This fluid closely resembles plasma but has a lower protein concentration, usually less than 1.5 gm\u002FdL. It primarily originates from pleural capillaries and the interstitial spaces of the lung, and is reabsorbed through the lymphatic vessels in the parietal pleura, either via small openings known as stomas or through a process called transcytosis (1, 2). When the balance between fluid production and reabsorption is disrupted-often due to various pathogenic mechanisms-it can lead to pleural effusion. In such cases, effective management is essential. This study aims to conduct a thorough comparison of the two talc administration methods-TS and TI-using sterilized, large-particle, asbestos-free talc powder. By examining key outcome measures such as pleurodesis success rates, procedural morbidity, and length of hospital stay, the goal is to provide clinicians with evidence-based guidance to facilitate informed decision-making in the management of pleural effusions.",[25,26,27,28],"Pneumothorax Spontaneous Primary","Pneumothorax Spontaneous Secondary","Pleural Effusion, Malignant","Pleurodesis",[30,31,28,32,33],"Talc slurry","Talc Insufflation","malignant pleural effusions","recurrent pneumothorax","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-01-03",{"date":37,"type":38},"2026-01-06","ACTUAL",{"date":40,"type":19},"2026-02-01",{"date":42,"type":19},"2027-03-30",{"name":44,"class":45},"University of Health Sciences Lahore","OTHER",1,{"id":48,"slug":49,"hasResults":11,"nctId":50,"briefTitle":51,"officialTitle":52,"acronym":53,"eligibilityCriteria":54,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":15,"minAge":55,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":56,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":20,"phases":58,"briefSummary":59,"conditions":60,"keywords":62,"overallStatus":34,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":68,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":69,"startDateStruct":71,"completionDateStruct":73,"leadSponsor":75,"locationsCount":4},"100561405","chest-drain-insertion-assisted-by-virtual-reality-100561405","NCT06589739","Chest Drain Insertion Assisted by Virtual Reality","Drainage Thoracique Assisté Par Un Casque De Réalité Virtuelle","CASVIA","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Indication of chest drain insertion for pleural effusion or primary spontaneous pneumothorax\n* Patient who received clear and loyal information abotu the study protocol\n* Patient who consented to participate to the study\n* Patient aged 18 years old or older\n* Patient affiliated to the french health system\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patient aged less than 18 years old\n* Patient in emergency situation\n* Patient with severe heart condition\n* Patient allergic to silicone\n* Patient with severe psychiatric or mental disorder\n* patient with binocular vision anomaly\n* patient with pacemaker or defibrillator\n* patient wearing a hearing aid that cannot be removed\n* Patients under the influence of alcohol or drugs, nausea, fatigue, emotional or anxiety disorders, migraine, headaches, infectious disease\n* Patient with past medical history of epilepsia or convulsion\n\n \\-- Persons covered by articles L. 1121-5 and L1121-8 of the French Public Health Code:\n * Pregnant, parturient or breast-feeding women,\n * Persons of full age subject to a legal protection measure (guardianship, curatorship, safeguard of justice)\n * adults unable to give their consent\n * Persons deprived of their liberty by a judicial or administrative decision, persons under psychiatric care under articles L. 3212-1 and L. 3213-1.\n* Person able to give consent but unable to write\n* Person able to give consent but unable to read French\n* Patient unable to consent to the study","18 Years",{"count":57,"type":19},40,[22],"Clinical study aiming to investigate the potential benefit of the use of virtual reality helmet as a distractor during chest drain insertion to alleviate patients\\' pain and anxiety",[25,26,61],"Pleural Effusion",[63,64,65,66,67],"virtual reality","chest drain","pain management","chest tube","anxiety management","2024-09-06",{"date":70,"type":38},"2024-09-19",{"date":72,"type":19},"2024-10-01",{"date":74,"type":19},"2025-10-01",{"name":76,"class":45},"Central Hospital, Nancy, France"]
