Postoperative bladder infection is one of the more frequently reported complications of this procedure. Prophylactic antibiotics given at the time of bladder Botox for the reduction of postoperative bladder infection have not been well studied. The main goal of our study is to determine if prophylactic antibiotics at the time of bladder Botox injection for the treatment of overactive bladder in women reduces postoperative bladder infection. The investigators are proposing a study which will randomize participants into two groups - one receiving Ciprofloxacin and the other receiving placebo pills for three days following the procedure. The primary outcome evaluated will be the difference in postoperative bladder infection between the two groups. The investigators will also investigate differences in reported side effects between the two groups possibly related to antibiotic use. Follow-up will be over six weeks following the procedure.",[26,27],"Idiopathic Overactive Bladder","Postoperative Urinary Tract Infection",[29],"prophylaxis","RECRUITING","2025-09-02",{"date":33,"type":34},"2025-09-03","ACTUAL",{"date":36,"type":34},"2021-06-28",{"date":38,"type":20},"2026-06-30",{"name":40,"class":41},"University of Alberta","OTHER",1,{"id":44,"slug":45,"hasResults":11,"nctId":46,"briefTitle":47,"officialTitle":47,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":48,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":16,"minAge":17,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":49,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":21,"phases":51,"briefSummary":53,"conditions":54,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":30,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":57,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":58,"startDateStruct":60,"completionDateStruct":62,"leadSponsor":64,"locationsCount":42},"100536200","the-effectiveness-of-prophylactic-antibiotics-for-urethral-bulking-100536200","NCT06261736","The Effectiveness of Prophylactic Antibiotics for Urethral Bulking","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients scheduled to undergo a urethral bulking procedure\n* Age 18 ≥ over\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* History of recurrent urinary tract infections\n* Known history of urinary retention\n* Allergies or contraindications to multiple antibiotics\n* Inability to tolerate oral antibiotics\n* Concomitant surgical procedures at the time of urethral bulking\n* Pregnant or breastfeeding",{"count":50,"type":20},70,[52],"NA","The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate if prophylactic antibiotics in urethral bulking are effective in reducing postprocedural urinary tract infections.",[55,27,56],"Stress Urinary Incontinence","Urethral Bulking","2025-04-04",{"date":59,"type":34},"2025-04-08",{"date":61,"type":34},"2023-10-24",{"date":63,"type":20},"2026-01",{"name":65,"class":41},"Atlantic Health System"]
