Potential participants are individuals of working age (20-59 years) sick-listed due to a musculoskeletal disorder (neck pain, low back pain, or widespread pain) for up to 12 weeks living in Norway. In France, 7% of sick leave episodes (those exceeding 6 months) account for 45% of total sickness benefit expenditure (Cour des Comptes 2024). Group disability insurance charges rose +24.4% in 2024 (France Assureurs 2025). Critically, a substantial proportion of long-duration sick leave occurs without prior escalation in administrative absence data - the 'cliff effect' - where presenteeism masks progressive deterioration (Gustafsson \\& Marklund 2011). Prediction models based solely on absence history plateau at AUC 0.65 for cumulative days (Roelen 2013), while composite psychometric instruments reach C-index 0.73-0.74 (Airaksinen et al. 2018, SJWEH). The WB6Dim is a validated 28-item psychometric tool measuring 9 dimensions of workplace well-being (NCT07301879, NCT07433764; test-retest ICA .904). The ICA classifies respondents into 4 adaptive load levels. Aggregated at the company level, the ICA distribution may detect deterioration during the presenteeism window, before costly sick leave materializes. The study collects 4 WB6Dim assessments over 6 months alongside company-level absence data stratified by duration (2024-2026) and individual self-reported absence data (duration and episode count). Six pre-registered hypotheses test whether ICA predicts long-duration leave, including an exploratory hypothesis targeting companies with no prior absence signal but degraded well-being scores.",[63,27,64,65],"Absenteeism","Workplace Well-Being","Occupational Stress",[67,68,69,70,71],"WB6Dim","Adaptive Load Index","absenteeism prediction","cliff effect","ICA","2026-05-17",{"date":74,"type":39},"2026-05-26",{"date":76,"type":21},"2026-06-01",{"date":78,"type":21},"2026-11-30",{"name":80,"class":81},"Clover Link","INDUSTRY",{"id":83,"slug":4,"hasResults":11,"nctId":12,"briefTitle":13,"officialTitle":13,"acronym":14,"eligibilityCriteria":84,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":16,"minAge":17,"maxAge":18,"enrollmentInfo":85,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":22,"phases":86,"briefSummary":25,"conditions":87,"keywords":88,"overallStatus":35,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":89,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":90,"startDateStruct":92,"completionDateStruct":94,"leadSponsor":95,"locationsCount":47},"100595560","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Individuals 20-59 years old (working age)\n* Living in Norway\n* Sick-listed due to a musculoskeletal disorder for up to 12 weeks\n* Musculoskeletal complaints are the main reason for sick leave.\n* The main diagnosis for sick leave is unspecific pain, for example one of the following (ICPC-2 diagnoses codes):\n* Neck symptom\u002Fcomplaint (L01)\n* Back symptom\u002Fcomplaint (L02)\n* Low back symptom\u002Fcomplaint (L03)\n* Muscle pain (L18)\n* Back syndrome without radiating pain (L84)\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Do not have a smartphone with internet access (i.e., to be able to download and access the SmaRTWork app).\n* Pregnant\n* No employer (unemployed or self-employed)\n* Poor Norwegian comprehension\n* Sick listed for more than 3 months the last year\n* Have a planned date for RTW during the next week\n* Have previously participated in the study or currently participating in other studies\n* Unable to take part in exercise\u002Fphysical activity (e.g., use of walking aids, unable to get up and down on the floor independently)\n* Leg pain worse than back pain\n* Red flags that could indicate serious underlying pathology:\n\n * Changes in bladder or bowel function\n * General feeling of being unwell (malaise), fever and\u002For unexplained weight loss\n * Reduced muscle (motor) function, sensory loss, walking problems or balance problems\n * Neck or back pain that started after the age of 55 or feel different from previous pain episodes\n * Pain that does not improve with rest or light activity or pain that is much worse during the night\n * Previous or ongoing cancer\n * Use of steroids\u002Fimmune suppressing medications or drug use\n * Pain that is trauma (injury) related\n* Serious ongoing somatic (e.g., unstable heart disease) or mental disorder (e.g., psychosis, ongoing manic episode, suicidal ideation) that prevents participation\n* Pain has not been assessed by a physician",{"count":20,"type":21},[24],[27,28],[30,31,32,33,34],"2026-01-14",{"date":91,"type":39},"2026-01-15",{"date":93,"type":21},"2026-03",{"date":43,"type":21},{"name":45,"class":46}]
