The questionnaire will be developed through a structured Delphi consensus process involving a multidisciplinary panel of healthcare professionals experienced in infection prevention and vaccination strategies. Two Delphi rounds will be conducted online to evaluate item relevance and clarity. Items reaching predefined consensus thresholds will be included in the final questionnaire. The resulting tool will support future studies assessing preventive care awareness and vaccination uptake among splenectomized patients.",[25,26,27],"Splenectomy; Status","Asplenia","Splenectomized Patients",[29,30,31,32,33,34],"splenectomy","asplenia","vaccination","infection prevention","delphi study","questionnaire development","RECRUITING","2026-04-02",{"date":38,"type":39},"2026-04-08","ACTUAL",{"date":41,"type":39},"2026-01-01",{"date":43,"type":21},"2026-04-01",{"name":45,"class":46},"Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS","OTHER",1,{"id":49,"slug":50,"hasResults":11,"nctId":51,"briefTitle":52,"officialTitle":53,"acronym":54,"eligibilityCriteria":55,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":18,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":56,"targetDuration":58,"studyType":22,"phases":4,"briefSummary":59,"conditions":60,"keywords":62,"overallStatus":35,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":70,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":71,"startDateStruct":73,"completionDateStruct":75,"leadSponsor":77,"locationsCount":5},"100620228","evaluation-of-the-effectiveness-of-an-educational-intervention-in-splenectomized-patients-100620228","NCT07354893","Evaluation of the Effectiveness of an Educational Intervention in Splenectomized Patients","Evaluation of an Educational Intervention on Knowledge and Awareness of Infectious Risk in Splenectomized Patients and on Their Satisfaction With Vaccination Management in an Intra-hospital Outpatient Setting.","SPLE-VAC","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Adult patients (≥18 years old)\n* Patients splenectomized at FPG for whom a vaccination consultation is requested during hospitalization\n* Patients who provide signed informed consent to participate in the study and for the processing of personal data for research purposes\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Minor patients\n* Lack of signed informed consent for participation in the study and for the processing of personal data for research purposes\n* Patients splenectomized at other healthcare facilities",{"count":57,"type":21},100,"24 Months","The absence or dysfunction of the spleen is associated with a substantially increased risk of invasive infections that may rapidly progress to fulminant sepsis, including overwhelming post-splenectomy infection (OPSI), a medical emergency with high mortality. Although the risk is greatest in the first two years after splenectomy, it persists lifelong. Preventing infections in patients with anatomical or functional asplenia requires an integrated strategy that includes patient education, early recognition of symptoms, behavioral measures, antibiotic prophylaxis when indicated, and vaccination.\n\nPost-splenectomy immunization has been shown to reduce OPSI incidence. Regional and international guidelines recommend vaccination against pneumococcus, Haemophilus influenzae type b, meningococcus (B and ACWY), herpes zoster, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, measles-mumps-rubella-varicella, and annual influenza. However, adherence to these recommendations is frequently suboptimal, often due to limited awareness among patients and healthcare professionals.\n\nThis study involves the intra-hospital vaccination team providing structured vaccination consultations to splenectomized patients hospitalized at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario \"A. Gemelli\" IRCCS. During ward consultations, patients receive an educational intervention on asplenia-related infectious risks and preventive measures, supported by standardized informational materials. Effectiveness is evaluated using a pre-post questionnaire assessing knowledge and awareness. Patients completing the vaccination pathway at the outpatient clinic also complete a questionnaire assessing their experience with vaccination management in an intra-hospital setting.",[27,61,25,26],"Splenectomy",[63,64,65,66,67,30,29,68,69],"OPSI","infection risk","Infection Prevention","Preventive measures","Vaccination","splenectomized patients","post splenectomy infections","2026-01-29",{"date":72,"type":39},"2026-02-02",{"date":74,"type":39},"2026-01-13",{"date":76,"type":21},"2028-01-13",{"name":45,"class":46}]
