There will be two groups. The control group will receive the standard obesity lecture (SOL) and the intervention group will receive the BRAVE Intervention (BRAVE: Building Respect and Acceptance through Valuing Everybody); a Weight Bias Reduction (WBR) intervention. Both groups will have two simulation encounters with standardized patients who are living with obesity and the outcome will be to improve weight bias and increase weight sensitivity over one year. Participants will include second- and fourth-year nursing students. Two cohorts of nursing students will be recruited over two years during orientation for their NUR courses (n = 368); a combined total of 420 students are typically enrolled in these courses. Study participants will be randomized by 8-person simulation groups (clusters) to either the BRAVE intervention or SOL control group. They will then participate in the two simulation-based experiences and weight bias reduction education or standard obesity lecture, respectively, with a debriefing segment and educational components. To compare the efficacy of BRAVE groups to SOL groups in validated questionnaires will assess changing attitudes, beliefs, and clinical communication behaviors when comparing baseline to 3 months post-intervention, and one year after the intervention.",[25],[62,63,64],"weight bias","nursing education","obesity","2026-01-10",{"date":67,"type":38},"2026-01-13",{"date":69,"type":21},"2026-01-12",{"date":71,"type":21},"2028-05-20",{"name":73,"class":45},"Villanova University",1,{"id":76,"slug":77,"hasResults":11,"nctId":78,"briefTitle":79,"officialTitle":80,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":81,"healthyVolunteers":82,"sex":17,"minAge":18,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":83,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":56,"phases":85,"briefSummary":86,"conditions":87,"keywords":90,"overallStatus":96,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":97,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":98,"startDateStruct":100,"completionDateStruct":102,"leadSponsor":104,"locationsCount":74},"100606708","acceptability-and-feasibility-of-a-single-session-online-parent-focused-intervention-targeting-child-body-image-development-100606708","NCT07179068","Acceptability and Feasibility of a Single-Session Online Parent-Focused Intervention Targeting Child Body Image Development","Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Trial Assessing the Acceptability, Feasibility, and Initial Efficacy of a Single-session Online Parent-focused Intervention Targeting Predictors of Body Image Disturbance in Young Children","Inclusion Criteria: Must be at least 18 years old and reside in the US. Disordered eating can develop into clinically significant eating disorders, which are associated with serious negative impacts on psychological and physical well-being, and can adversely impact developmental trajectories in children and adolescents. Given limitations in the eating disorder intervention literature, it is important to invest in effective eating disorder prevention programs. Evidence suggests that children can recognize the existence of societal appearance ideals as early as age 3; thus, this study examines the acceptability and feasibility of a single-session, online, parent-focused intervention targeting predictors of body image disturbance in young children.",[88,89,25],"Eating Disorders","Body Image Disturbance",[91,92,93,94,95],"Eating Disorder Prevention","Restriction","Loss of Control Eating","Body Image","Single Session Intervention","RECRUITING","2025-12-11",{"date":99,"type":38},"2025-12-18",{"date":101,"type":38},"2025-11-01",{"date":103,"type":21},"2026-01",{"name":105,"class":45},"University at Albany",{"id":107,"slug":108,"hasResults":11,"nctId":109,"briefTitle":110,"officialTitle":111,"acronym":112,"eligibilityCriteria":113,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":114,"maxAge":115,"enrollmentInfo":116,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":56,"phases":118,"briefSummary":119,"conditions":120,"keywords":128,"overallStatus":96,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":139,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":140,"startDateStruct":142,"completionDateStruct":144,"leadSponsor":146,"locationsCount":74},"100582507","addressing-weight-bias-internalization-to-improve-adolescent-weight-management-outcomes-randomized-pilot-trial-100582507","NCT06864208","Addressing Weight Bias Internalization to Improve Adolescent Weight Management Outcomes: Randomized Pilot Trial","Piloting an Intervention to Address Weight Bias Internalization to Improve Adolescent Weight Management Outcomes","SWIFT","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Speak English;\n* 13-17 years of age;\n* BMI at or above \\>95th%ile for age and sex;\n* Have at least one caregiver available to provide consent and participate in sessions;\n* Agree to study participation;\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Cognitive impairment or developmental delay impairing participation in a group setting;\n* Current participation in a weight management program or recent weight loss of 5% of body weight or more;\n* Medical condition known to impact weight or that would otherwise prevent participation;\n* Current use of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists;","13 Years","17 Years",{"count":117,"type":21},64,[58],"Weight stigma and weight bias internalization (WBI) are common among adolescents at higher weight statuses.
