Hyperangulated vs. Macintosh Style Blades for Intubation in Obstetric Patients

Cesarean section under general anesthesia requires intubation (insertion of a tube through the mouth into the breathing pipe to support breathing during the surgery). A device called a video laryngoscope is used, which has a smooth, curved, or less curved component called 'a blade' that helps the doctor gently see the voice box and guide the breathing tube safely into place during anesthesia; it is not a sharp tool blade. There are two types of video laryngoscopes blades: a Macintosh- style blade with a gentle curve, approximately 90 degrees) and a hyperangulated blade (with a more pronounced curve). Although video laryngoscopes are safe and both types have been used for around 20 years, it is not known whether one type works better that the other in patients undergoing cesarean delivery under general anesthesia. Because general anesthesia is used in only a small proportion (about 5%) of all cesarean deliveries, research in this area is limited. The main purpose of the study is to assess if a study comparing these two types of blades in the obstetric population is feasible. This is also known as a feasibility study, which aims to test the study plan and determine whether enough participants will join a larger study and accept the study procedures. The results will be used as a guide for a larger study.

The Role of Preoperative Internal Jugular Vein Collapsibility and Perfusion Index in Predicting Hypotension After Spinal Anesthesia in Elective Cesarean Sections: A Prospective Observational Study

Spinal anesthesia is widely preferred for elective cesarean delivery due to its favorable safety profile and superior postoperative analgesia. However, post-spinal hypotension (PSH) remains a common complication, with reported incidence rates ranging from 40% to 70%, potentially compromising maternal hemodynamic stability and uteroplacental perfusion. Early identification of patients at high risk for PSH is therefore of critical clinical importance. This prospective observational study aims to evaluate the predictive performance of preoperative internal jugular vein collapsibility index (IJV-CI), assessed by ultrasonography, and baseline perfusion index (PI), obtained via pulse oximetry, for the development of PSH in patients undergoing elective cesarean section under spinal anesthesia. While IJV-CI reflects intravascular volume status and preload, PI represents peripheral vascular tone; thus, their combined use may improve predictive accuracy. Study Design This is a single-center, prospective observational study conducted in patients scheduled for elective cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia. No additional intervention will be applied, and all anesthetic management will follow standard clinical practice. Objectives Primary Objective: To assess the ability of preoperative IJV collapsibility index (IJV-CI) and baseline perfusion index (PI) to predict post-spinal hypotension. Secondary Objectives: To evaluate the relationship between IJV-CI and PI with: Duration and number of hypotensive episodes Minimum systolic and mean arterial pressure Total vasopressor requirement Incidence of intraoperative nausea and vomiting Pregnant women aged 18-45 years, ASA II, with singleton pregnancies scheduled for elective cesarean section under spinal anesthesia. Inclusion Criteria Age 18-45 years Elective cesarean section Planned spinal anesthesia ASA physical status II Singleton pregnancy Exclusion Criteria Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (e.g., preeclampsia, HELLP) Significant cardiac or pulmonary disease Chronic kidney disease Multiple pregnancy Emergency cesarean delivery Conversion to general anesthesia Conditions preventing IJV ultrasonographic assessmentBaseline PI will be recorded preoperatively using standard pulse oximetry. IJV diameters will be measured via ultrasound, and the collapsibility index will be calculated as: IJVI: (Dmax-Dmin/Dmax)X100 Hemodynamic parameters will be recorded at 3-minute intervals from spinal anesthesia administration until delivery. Statistical analysis will include ROC curve analysis, correlation analysis, and logistic regression to evaluate predictive performance.

The Effect of Lactoferrin on Pain Management Following Cesarean Section

This study evaluates whether lactoferrin, a naturally occurring protein with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, can improve pain control after cesarean section. Effective management of postoperative pain is essential to support maternal recovery, mobility, and the ability to care for the newborn, while minimizing reliance on opioid medications and their associated side effects. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, women undergoing elective cesarean section will receive either oral lactoferrin or a matching placebo in addition to standard postoperative analgesia. Lactoferrin will be administered starting before surgery and continued for 48 hours after delivery. The study will assess whether lactoferrin reduces postoperative pain intensity and opioid consumption, and improves recovery outcomes such as time to mobilization, patient satisfaction, and incidence of common postoperative symptoms. Safety and tolerability will also be evaluated.

Comparison of Two Different Doses of Phenylephrine on Oxytocin Hemodynamic Effect

Cesarean section is one of the commonly performed surgical procedures in the world. Once baby is delivered during the surgical procedure anesthesiologist administer Oxytocin drug through IV cannula which helps the Uterus to contract so that excessive blood loss doesnt occur. But this is associated with fall in blood pressure frequently requiring administration of medications to treat low blood pressure. The most frequently used drug is phenylephrine which can administered along with oxytocin to prevent fall in blood pressure. This study will compare to different doses of Phenylephrine to prevent fall in blood pressure.

Effect of Combined Skin-to-Skin Contact and Kangaroo Care on Breastfeeding and Bonding in Cesarean-Born Newborns

This randomized controlled study aims to evaluate the effect of consecutive skin-to-skin contact applied by the mother and father on breastfeeding parameters and parent-infant bonding in babies born by cesarean section. The study includes two groups: an intervention group receiving consecutive skin-to-skin contact by the father followed by the mother, and a control group receiving routine postnatal care. Breastfeeding success and parental bonding will be assessed using validated measurement tools during the early postnatal period and follow-up.

QR Code-Based Preoperative Education for Cesarean Birth: Anxiety, Pain, and Comfort

This study aims to evaluate the effect of QR code-based preoperative education on anxiety, postpartum pain, and comfort levels in women undergoing cesarean birth. Cesarean delivery is a common surgical procedure, and insufficient preoperative information may increase anxiety and negatively affect postoperative recovery and comfort. In this randomized controlled study, eligible pregnant women scheduled for elective cesarean birth will be assigned to either an intervention group or a control group. Women in the intervention group will receive preoperative education delivered through QR code-based digital materials, including information about the cesarean procedure, postoperative pain management, and comfort-enhancing strategies. The control group will receive routine care provided by the hospital. Anxiety levels will be assessed preoperatively, while postpartum pain and comfort levels will be evaluated after delivery using validated measurement tools. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of accessible and effective educational interventions to improve maternal well-being and postoperative outcomes in cesarean birth.
