Photobiomodulation Effects on Fatigue and Muscle Damage Induced by NMES

Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) is widely used to improve muscle strength and mitigate atrophy. However, its clinical efficacy is often limited by early neuromuscular fatigue, muscle damage, and discomfort, which reduce patient tolerance and contraction time. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has emerged as a potential therapy to enhance muscle performance and accelerate recovery by minimizing fatigue and damage. Despite its potential, few studies have investigated the effects of PBM applied specifically before an NMES-evoked fatigue protocol. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial aims to evaluate the acute effects of PBM on neuromuscular fatigue, muscle damage, and functional outcomes in healthy young subjects. Participants will receive either active PBM (cluster probe: 5 lasers 810nm/200mW; 4 LEDs 660nm/10mW; Total Energy: 249.6 J per limb) or sham treatment 5 minutes before a fatiguing NMES protocol (80 contractions at 20% MVIC, 80 Hz, 1ms pulse width) applied to the quadriceps muscle. Assessments will be performed at baseline, immediately post-intervention, and at 24h, 48h, and 72h post-intervention. Primary outcomes include maximum and evoked isometric strength, mechanical work, and electrical muscle activity. Secondary outcomes include muscle damage (ultrasound echo-intensity), delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), functional performance (unilateral vertical jump), and clinical discomfort. The study seeks to determine if PBM can effectively modulate NMES-induced fatigue and muscle damage, potentially optimizing its clinical application.

The Safety and Efficacy of Redsenol-1 Plus on Cancer-related Fatigue in Adults

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Redsenol-1 Plus on cancer-related fatigue (CRF) in adults. The change in the severity of CRF from baseline at week 12 will be assessed by the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-F) fatigue subscale, and compared between Redsenol-1 Plus and placebo groups. Additionally, the safety and tolerability of Redsenol-1 Plus, as compared to placebo, will be measured by the occurrence of and/or changes in treatment-emergent adverse events (AEs).

Evaluation of NuvastaticTM in Reducing Cancer-Related Fatigue in Stage IV Colon Cancer Patients Undergoing First-Line Chemotherapy

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate whether Nuvastatic can reduce cancer-related fatigue in adult patients with colon cancer undergoing first-line chemotherapy. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does Nuvastatic significantly reduce cancer-related fatigue compared to placebo? Is Nuvastatic safe and well tolerated in this patient population? Researchers will compare Nuvastatic vs placebo to see if Nuvastatic improves fatigue scores and maintains an acceptable safety profile. Participants will: Receive Nuvastatic or placebo sachets (3 times per day) for 3 cycles of 20 days each (total \~60 treatment days). Continue their standard first-line chemotherapy regimen. Provide blood samples for biomarkers (CEA, CA-125) at Screening and End of Treatment. Complete patient diaries and fatigue assessments as per protocol.

"Balance, Gait, and Motion Analysis in Multiple Sclerosis"

The goal of this observational cross-sectional study is to investigate the relationship between functional measures of balance and gait and objective kinetic and kinematic parameters in people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The main questions it aims to answer are: i) What is the relationship between kinetic and kinematic gait and balance parameters measured using the Vicon motion analysis system and performance on clinical functional assessments in people with Multiple Sclerosis? ii) Which biomechanical parameters are most strongly associated with functional balance, gait, and physical performance outcomes? Participants will attend a single laboratory-based assessment session. During this session, they will undergo biomechanical gait and balance analysis using the Vicon motion capture system, complete functional assessments of balance, gait, and physical performance, complete questionnaires assessing fear of falling and fatigue, and undergo assessment of lower-limb spasticity.

Cognitive Reserve and Post-Fatigue Recovery in Older Adults

As people grow older, it is common to experience a drop in physical stamina and memory functions. This can make recovering from daily physical and mental fatigue more difficult, which directly impacts an individual's independent daily life and overall quality of life. "Cognitive reserve" is a term that describes the brain's built-in resilience. Built over a lifetime through education, work, and social activities, a higher cognitive reserve acts like a buffer, helping the brain adapt to stress and aging. While research shows that a high cognitive reserve protects against conditions like dementia, we still do not fully understand how it helps older adults bounce back from normal, everyday physical and mental exhaustion. The goal of this study is to investigate how cognitive reserve levels influence how individuals aged 65 and older perceive their recovery after experiencing physical and mental fatigue. What the Study Involves The researchers will evaluate participants aged 65 and older to measure their baseline cognitive reserve levels. The study will look closely at how these levels affect the participants': Ability to cope with daily physical and mental fatigue. Need for rest and rest patterns. Time and ability to return to normal daily activities. Overall perception of their mental and physical recovery. Expected Outcome By understanding this relationship, the study aims to fill a gap in medical literature and help healthcare providers design better, more personalized rehabilitation and lifestyle support programs to improve the quality of life for older adults.

Dietary Intervention to Mitigate Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome

The primary objective of this study is to conduct a 16-week randomized controlled trial aimed at investigating the effectiveness of the Whole-Diet Approach when following a healthy US-style diet rich in anti-inflammatory properties. The study will focus on evaluating its impact on reducing symptoms related to Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection (PACS) in adults aged 50 years and older. The main research questions this study aims to answer are: 1. Does adhering to a healthy US-style diet, which is abundant in anti-inflammatory properties, effectively mitigate fatigue symptoms in adults with PACS? 2. Does adhering to a healthy US-style diet, which is abundant in anti-inflammatory properties, effectively mitigate declines in muscle function and physical performance in adults with PACS? At the beginning of the study, eligible participants will be randomly assigned to either the Dietary Intervention Group, where they will receive personalized dietary plans and weekly sessions, or the Attention Control Group, where they will attend general health sessions on a weekly basis as well. This research intends to shed light on the potential benefits of the Whole-Diet Approach and its role in ameliorating PACS-related symptoms among older adults. By comparing the outcomes of the two groups, we hope to gain valuable insights into the effectiveness of this dietary intervention in improving the quality of life for individuals dealing with PACS.

Non-Invasive Sleep Monitoring for Burnout and Retention Risk in Postgraduate Nurses

Newly graduated nurses often experience high levels of psychological stress, sleep disturbance, fatigue, and burnout during the early transition into clinical practice. Early identification of burnout and retention risk may help improve mental well-being, workforce stability, and quality of patient care. This longitudinal observational study aims to develop a non-invasive sleep-based prediction platform for assessing burnout and retention risk among postgraduate nurses. Participants will undergo repeated psychological assessments and non-contact sleep monitoring during the study period. Sleep-related physiological parameters, including sleep efficiency, sleep structure, heart rate variability, and respiratory variability, will be collected together with validated psychological questionnaires. The study will further apply machine learning and artificial intelligence approaches to integrate longitudinal physiological and psychological data for risk prediction and early identification of burnout-related conditions. The findings may support future development of precision mental health monitoring and supportive management strategies for high-stress healthcare workers.

The goal of this research study is to train psychotherapists to administer individualized evidence-based psychotherapies in a cancer care setting to patients and caregivers with elevated levels of distress. The intervention will mirror clinical care in psycho-oncology in which the therapist, collaboratively with their supervisor, will choose specific components of the following evidence-based treatments to administer based on the clinical presentation of the patient or caregiver and referring problem. * Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) * Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) * Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) * Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) * Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy (MCP) * Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) * CBT for other cancer-related physical symptoms like pain, fatigue, and nausea. Take the Reins: The Effects of Nutrient Timing on Cancer-related Fatigue

Cancer-related fatigue affects at least 30-90% of patients with cancer, depending on the type of cancer and their treatment(s) (e.g., chemotherapy, radiation). It is not relieved by sleep or rest, and it sometimes can persist for years after a person's cancer was treated. The fatigue can be so bad that people cannot return to work, hobbies, family roles, or other daily activities, thereby greatly reducing quality of life. The causes of this fatigue are unknown, and we currently do not have anything that can reliably prevent or cure the fatigue. However, there are recent data suggesting that circadian rhythm, or a person's internal body clock, may be disrupted by the cancer experience and contribute to fatigue. Food intake is an external cue that can entrain circadian rhythm. We recently showed that cancer survivors are willing and able to eat all their food within a 10-hour eating window-a practice called time-restricted eating. Herein, we are testing time-restricted eating against a control group (matched for time-, attention, and expectancy) to see if time-restricted eating can indeed alleviate cancer-related fatigue. All participants will be asked to use the myCircadianClock smartphone app to log their food intake and weekly body weight measurements. The participants assigned to the time-restricted eating group will be asked to eat all their food in a 10-hour window during the day. People can choose their start time based on their schedule and preferences, but we ask that the window is the same for the whole study (e.g., 7am-5pm,9:30am-7:30pm). Black coffee and unsweetened tea are allowed before the eating window, and water and medicines are allowed at all times. The participants in the control group will meet with a nutritionist to discuss the American Cancer Society nutrition guidelines in cancer survivorship; they will not be restricted to when they can eat. Participants in both groups will give us valuable information regarding how diet is related to the experience of fatigue. The purpose of this study is to test the effects of a 12-week TRE intervention vs. an unrestricted eating pattern on fatigue, the sustainability of the program at 24 weeks, and the effects of TRE on circadian rhythm and sugar metabolism.

ROBO-PAWS: Robot-Dog-Assisted Walking

Childhood cancers affect approximately 400,000 children and adolescents worldwide each year. Although advances in treatment have significantly improved survival rates, children undergoing cancer treatment continue to experience a wide range of treatment-related symptoms and complications. Among these, fatigue and sleep disturbances are particularly common and may persist throughout treatment and survivorship, negatively affecting psychological well-being, cognitive functioning, and overall quality of life. Reduced physical activity during treatment is strongly associated with worsening fatigue, impaired sleep, and decreased quality of life in pediatric oncology patients. However, treatment side effects, prolonged hospitalization, infection risk, and lack of motivating play-based activities often limit children's participation in physical activity during treatment. Recent evidence suggests that physical activity interventions may help reduce fatigue and improve well-being in children with cancer, yet engaging and age-appropriate non-pharmacological interventions remain limited, especially for younger children. This pilot randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the feasibility and potential effects of a robot-dog-assisted walking intervention on sleep quality, fatigue, and quality of life among children aged 2-7 years undergoing cancer treatment.

Reflexology Versus Progressive Muscle Relaxation for Fatigue in Hemodialysis Patients

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the effects of reflexology and progressive muscle relaxation in reducing fatigue among hemodialysis patients and to determine which intervention provides greater relief from fatigue. The main question it aims to answer is: Is there any difference in effectiveness between reflexology and progressive muscle relaxation techniques in reducing fatigue levels among patients undergoing hemodialysis? Association Between Sarcopenia, Fatigue and Orthostatic Intolerance in Geriatric Patients: A Case Control Study

This study aims to explore the relationship between sarcopenia, fatigue, and orthostatic intolerance in older adults. It will be conducted among geriatric patients attending Ain Shams University Hospitals. Participants aged 65 years and older will be divided into two groups: those with sarcopenia, diagnosed according to the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People 2, and age- and sex-matched controls without sarcopenia. The study will compare levels of fatigue and the presence of orthostatic intolerance between the two groups. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Depression in Multiple Sclerosis

Canada has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis (MS). MS patients experience disabling motor, visual, and sensory symptoms, and a high risk of comorbid major depressive disorder (MDD) and severe fatigue. The lifetime prevalence of MDD in MS patients is about 50%, and nearly 90% experience severe fatigue, both of which are not responsive to typical treatments. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a first line, Health Canada approved non-invasive neurostimulation treatment for MDD. rTMS induces electrical activity in the cortex using magnetic fields generated outside of the head to drive neuronal firing in the target site. However, MS is typically an exclusion criterion due to safety concerns. The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can be used to treat depression symptoms in adults with multiple sclerosis (MS). rTMS is a non-invasive form of brain stimulation that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific parts of the brain. The main questions it aims to answer are: Is rTMS safe, tolerable, and feasible to deliver as a treatment for depression and fatigue symptoms in individuals with MS? Does rTMS show preliminary effectiveness in improving depression and fatigue symptoms in this population? Researchers will determine whether rTMS treatment improves mood, fatigue, and cognition across time points (baseline, after treatment, and 4-week follow-up). Participants will: Complete screening, questionnaires, clinical assessments, cognitive tests, a brain MRI to help tailor the TMS treatment, and receive daily TMS sessions for 5 consecutive days, including: Pre-TMS brain mapping, five rTMS treatments (3 minutes) per day, separated by one hour. A safety and tolerability questionnaire will be administered daily. Complete post-treatment assessments (questionnaires, cognitive tests, psychiatric evaluation). Complete a 4-week follow-up visit, in person or virtually. Wear a fitness tracking watch during the study so researchers can collect activity data remotely. About 20 people will take part in this study through the University of Calgary.

Explanatory Factors and Predictors of Fatigue in Patients With Sjögren's Disease: A 3-month Longitudinal Study

This prospective longitudinal study will be conducted in patients diagnosed with Sjögren's disease who are followed at the rheumatology outpatient clinic of Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University Medical Faculty Hospital. Demographic and clinical data will be collected from routine clinical assessments and medical records, including laboratory results obtained during standard care. Participants will undergo evaluation of pressure pain threshold using a digital algometer and complete validated questionnaires assessing fatigue, disease activity, patient-reported symptoms, anxiety and depression, pain catastrophizing, sleep quality, and physical activity level. All assessments will be performed at baseline and repeated at follow-up visits approximately 3 months later.
