Ripe for Revival: Outcomes Evaluation of a Mobile Produce Market With Vouchers

Increasing access to healthy foods is crucial to combating chronic disease in rural communities. The Ripe for Revival mobile market, a non-profit eastern NC-based mobile market, seeks to improve healthy food access among those at greatest risk of food insecurity and poor health. By implementing vouchers at the mobile market, this study will help make healthy food affordable and accessible. This project is poised to improve diet and health among rural residents in eight counties and promote sustainable local food systems in North Carolina.

Addressing Food Access and Physical Activity to Improve Diabetes Prevention Outcomes Among Underserved African Americans

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if an enhanced, culturally, socially, and structurally tailored Diabetes Prevention Program (E-DPP) can improve weight loss and related diabetes risk factors in African American adults with prediabetes living in low-income, socially vulnerable communities. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Does the enhanced DPP (E-DPP) lead to greater percent weight loss at 6 and 12 months compared to the standard culturally tailored DPP (S-DPP)? * How do social determinants (e.g., food insecurity, stigma, access to resources) influence weight loss and engagement in lifestyle behaviors? Researchers will compare a standard culturally tailored DPP (S-DPP) to an enhanced DPP (E-DPP) to see if improving access to healthy food, physical activity, and community resources increases weight loss and improves diabetes-related outcomes. Participants will 1. Attend DPP sessions delivered in community settings (e.g., churches) 2. Receive lifestyle education focused on diet, physical activity, and weight loss 3. Engage in physical activity (including in-class exercise sessions \[E-DPP only\] and community-based options) 4. Receive support for healthy eating, including food deliveries (\[E-DPP only\]), food selection guidance, and referrals to food assistance programs 5. Receive information and support for accessing community resources for food and physical activity

Food Insecurity and Eating Behavior Among Adults Receiving Buprenorphine or Methadone Maintenance Treatment: Pilot Study 2

The goal of this study is to evaluate the effects of a novel, mail-based meal delivery intervention among individuals receiving MOUD on household food security status. The main question it aims to answer is: * Will participants randomized to the NE+MD intervention will demonstrate greater reductions in USDA FSS scores from intake to Study Week 24 than NE participants? Participants with OUD and FI will be randomly assigned to one of two 24-week experimental conditions: Nutritional Education alone (NE) or NE + Meal Delivery (NE+MD). NE control participants will receive brief NE, a list of FI-related resources in their community, and assistance with contacting any resources of interest. NE+MD participants will receive the same educational platform plus commercial weekly meal deliveries directly to the participant's home (6 meals per week per household member). All participants will complete monthly follow-up assessments throughout the 24-week study measuring food security status, psychosocial functioning, and biometric measures of health. All participants will also complete monthly follow-up assessments for 6 months post-intervention.

The Effect of Work Requirements in SNAP in Virginia

More than a dozen states have proposed or plan to implement work requirements in Medicaid, and similar requirements already exist nationally in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), yet evidence on the effects of these policies is limited. In cooperation with the state of Virginia, the investigators plan to conduct a randomized controlled trial studying the impacts of work requirements in public programs on insurance coverage, SNAP participation, employment, and health, with a particular focus on changes in racial/ethnic and geographic disparities in these outcomes. The COVID-19 epidemic and concurrent economic downturn creates additional urgency around these issues, and the investigators will use a combination of national administrative data and a new population survey to assess disparities in employment, health care, and food insecurity during this crisis.
