Educational Discharge Video Impact on Post-Operative Healthcare Utilization After HoLEP

This will be a randomized interventional study. Patients scheduled to undergo a HoLEP at UCSF will be randomized into two groups after the procedure: one group will watch a scripted educational HoLEP video and the other group will not receive a video. We will monitor the post-operative care utilization after discharge. Secondary outcomes will include patient satisfaction.

Predictors of Trifecta Achievement After HoLEP

Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is a surgical treatment option for men experiencing bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms due to an enlarged prostate. Researchers predict that specific participant or operator-dependent conditions before or during HoLEP may influence the trifecta outcome, based on similar studies. Therefore, the aim of this study is to understand what these conditions are. Trifecta success indicates a high-quality surgery based on three essential criteria: the treatment's effectiveness, ease of recovery, and the absence of serious side effects. In this study, trifecta is defined as relief from bothersome symptoms validated by international symptom score questionnaires, no urinary incontinence, and no serious events occurring within three months after HoLEP.

Comparison of Convective Water Vapor Ablation (Convective Water Vapor Energy, WAVE™) With the Rezum™ System Versus Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) Versus Bipolar Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TUR-P) in Patients With Benign Prostatic Syndrome (BPS) - A Randomized Study

Benign prostatic enlargement (BPH/BPS) is one of the most common benign diseases in adult men. About 50% of men are affected by the age of 50, and between the ages of 70 and 80 the prevalence rises to 70-80%. There are various surgical procedures available for the treatment of BPH. In this study, we are investigating three surgical procedures which, based on the current data, appear to be relatively equivalent; however, additional data are still needed to substantiate this. The aim of this study is to compare the three surgical methods REZUM vs. HoLEP vs. TUR-P for endoscopic transurethral subvesical de-obstruction with regard to both subjective and objective voiding function, as well as improvements in quality of life and sexual function. The goal of the study is to work out the possible advantages and disadvantages for future patient counseling, thereby defining more precisely the role of these surgical procedures within the armamentarium of urology. This is a single-center, randomized, prospective interventional study.

Effect of Anesthesia Techniques on Quality of Recovery Scores in HOLEP Surgery

The aim of this observational study is to evaluate the effects of different anesthesia techniques on the quality of recovery (QoR) and patient satisfaction in male patients, typically older adults with benign prostatic hyperplasia, undergoing Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP). Participants will undergo HoLEP surgery under one of three anesthesia techniques-general, spinal, or combined spinal-epidural anesthesia-and will complete the QoR-40 questionnaire both before and after the surgery.
