User Evaluation of Advanced Personalized Modular Pressure Relief Seating Cushion Systems

30 Veterans who are full-time wheelchair users will use personalized modular cushions for two weeks each. Personalized cushions will be created using a cushion fitting process the investigators have already developed and tested. Microenvironmental conditions will be monitored during use. A cost analysis will ensure the customized modular cushion applies value-driven principles. User satisfaction will be measured along with the effects on daily function, skin status and seated tissue health.

Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis and Mobility Function With Exercise Intervention

Moderate (50-69%) asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis (ACAS) is an important and under-appreciated contributor to balance and mobility dysfunction. This is significant because declines in balance and mobility are a significant predictor of falls, disability, loss of independence, and death in older adults. Further, falls and fall-related injuries in older adults cost approximately 50 billion dollars annually in the United States, and are the leading cause of adverse events reported by the Veterans Health Administration. This proposal seeks to: 1) investigate the impact of a supervised aerobic and challenging balance exercise program on balance and mobility function in patients with moderate ACAS; and 2) elucidate whether these changes are related to changes in cerebral perfusion. With 830,000 Veterans estimated to have moderate ACAS and at risk for balance and mobility dysfunction and increased falls, the findings from this study could have significant impacts on the clinical management, quality of life, and functional independence of Veterans with moderate ACAS.

Kava Aging and Mobility Study

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if AB-free kava works to improve mobility and physical function in older adults with sleep difficulties. It will also learn about the safety of AB-free kava. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Does AB-free kava improve physical function and/or mobility? * Does AB-free kava effect sleep, stress, or cellular signaling? Researchers will compare AB-free kava to a placebo (a look-alike substance that contains no drug) to see if AB-free kava works to improve mobility and physical functioning.

Effect of Adding Progressive Muscle Relaxation to Physical Therapy Program on Fatigue, Mobility and Stress Among Individuals With Traumatic Lower Limb Amputation in the Gaza Strip

Lower limb amputation is a life-altering condition with profound physical and psychological consequences, including fatigue, impaired mobility, stress, and asymmetrical weight-bearing. These challenges are particularly severe in conflict-affected settings like the Gaza Strip, where access to rehabilitation services is limited. This study aims to evaluates the effect of adding Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), a simple and cost-effective relaxation technique, to standard physical therapy on Fatigue, mobility, weightbearing distribution and stress outcomes among adults with unilateral traumatic lower limb amputation in Gaza. Study design: RCT with 60 participants will be randomly assigned to either (1) a control group receiving standard physiotherapy or (2) an intervention group receiving standard physiotherapy plus PMR. Outcomes will be measured using validated instruments: Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), 2-Minute Walk Test (2MWT), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and dual bathroom scale method for weight-bearing distribution. Assessments will be conducted at baseline, post-intervention (6 weeks), and follow-up (8 weeks). The study aims to determine whether integrating PMR into rehabilitation improves fatigue reduction, functional mobility, stress management, and weight-bearing symmetry compared to physiotherapy alone. Findings will contribute to evidence-based rehabilitation strategies for amputees in low-resource, high-stress environments.
