EVALUATION OF THE BENEFITS OF SOPHROLOGY FOR PATIENTS UNDERGOING RADIOTHERAPY

Anxiety is a common symptom among patients undergoing radiation therapy, stemming from their cancer diagnosis, anticipation of side effects, and the specific challenges associated with the treatment sessions. The technical nature of the treatment, the medical setting, and the daily repetition of sessions can exacerbate this anxiety. This anxiety is likely to impair quality of life, treatment tolerance, and patient adherence to the care pathway. In this context, managing anxiety during radiation therapy is a major challenge in supportive care. Since 2021, the Finistère Center for Radiation Therapy and Oncology has been offering sophrology sessions to its cancer patients as part of a comprehensive support program aimed at improving their quality of life. The aim of the study is to assess the potential benefits of this approach and better understand its impact on patients' experiences during treatment.

Support Pathway for ENT Cancer Patients in a Support Care Day Hospital

Cancers of the upper respiratory / digestive tract are a major public health problem, ranking 5th among the most common cancers. Surgery plays a central role in the recommended treatments for this type of pathology. The surgical procedure and its after-effects can be anxiety-provoking and have a major psychological, physical and social impact on patients over the long term. Our institution's standard protocol is based on a pre-operative supportive care day hospital. The aim of this study is to compare our current care pathway with a more extensive interdisciplinary care pathway focused on patients' needs, in order to reduce anxiety and improve the quality of life of patients undergoing surgery for cancers of the upper respiratory / digestive tract. Our aim is to use a prospective single-centre interventional study to assess the impact of adding three post-operative day hospitals to the existing care pathway in terms of reducing anxiety and improving the quality of life of patients undergoing surgery.

Are Elastic Restraints Still Necessary in Improved Rehabilitation Programs After Hip and Knee Prosthetic Surgery?

Venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are considered serious and potentially preventable complications of hip and knee replacement surgery. The risks of thrombosis must be weighed against the risks associated with preventive measures, both mechanical and pharmacological. Modern medicine is now questioning the use of elastic restraints in surgery. Several studies have investigated the benefits of using restraints to prevent thromboembolic events. These studies have shown no additional benefit from the use of compression stockings in thromboembolism prevention. To the best of our knowledge, no orthopedic study has investigated the non-inferiority of pharmacological treatment compared with elastic compression devices, specifically in knee and hip surgery. The aim of this multicenter, prospective, randomized study is to investigate whether pharmacological prophylaxis alone is non-inferior to pharmacological and mechanical prophylaxis (using restraints) of peripheral venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism up to 90 days after prosthetic surgery.
