Immersive Virtual Reality Techniques on the Effects on Cognition in People With Cancer

OncoBRAIN aims to assess the effect of an innovative immersive virtual reality-based (IVR) intervention that includes cognitive, physical activity and mindfulness exercises in people diagnosed with cancer and Chemotherapy-Related Cognitive Deficits (CRCD). The main objective of OncoBRAIN is to determine the benefits of RVI intervention on the cognitive, and emotional state and quality of life of people with cancer and CRQD. We hypothesize that in OncoBRAIN we will find improvements in people with cancer and CRCD who have received IVR stimulation compared to the control group with cancer and CRCD who have not received IVR stimulation. People in the experimental group will perform better than patients in the control group in cognition (episodic memory, executive function, attention, and information processing speed), show better emotional well-being and perceive a better quality of life at the end of the intervention.

Influenza Vaccination, ACEI and ARB in the Evolution of SARS-CoV2 Infection

Some authors have proposed the use of the flu vaccine to reduce the severity of COVID-19 cases, while some have proposed the use of ACE Inhibitors (ACEI) or Angiotensin Receptor blockers (ARB), since this virus shares hemagglutinin as a transmission mechanism and acts on the ACE2 enzyme during infection. Other authors described how none of the elderly patients receiving antihistamines and azythromycin in two nursing homes in Toledo -Spain- during the first wave died or needed hospital admission, even considering that 100% of residents had a positive serological test after that wave. Other authors have described a positive evolution in patients receiving amantadine for their Parkinson's disease. The aim is to evaluate whether the admitted patients who are previously vaccinated or those who were already receiving these treatments showed a better evolution.

Hypofractionated Palliative Radiotherapy in Patients With Advanced Non-operable Rectal Cancer

Many patients with rectal cancer were not candidates for surgical resection because advanced age, comorbidities, or multiple synchronous metastases. In this scenario only comfort measures or different palliative radiotherapy regimens are applied, from single doses to treatments lasting several weeks. The aim of this prospective study is to describe the preliminary results of our protocol of hypofractionated palliative radiotherapy in patients with non-operable rectal cancer.

Paramedian Incidence Angles in Spinal Anaesthesia

The objective here is to quantify the number of punctures and redirections during routine practice in the anesthesiology department, verify the final angle of incidence and the sac-skin distance by ultrasound, and determine the optimal, maximum, and minimum angles that would have allowed successful punctures. The objective is also to correlate ultrasound and plain X-ray distances, if available. These angles would then be inferred in advance in patients who must undergo spinal anesthesia, assessing whether this prior estimate reduces the number of punctures and redirections.

Treatment of Mechanical Low Back Pain With High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)

High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is an emerging technology that allows for the targeted thermal ablation of deep tissues in a non-invasive manner, by concentrating acoustic energy on the target nerve, whilst preserving adjacent structures. Recently, open clinical studies have confirmed the feasibility, safety and efficacy of HIFU in patients with lumbar facet syndrome, with clinical response rates similar to those of RFA and no significant complications. This observational, prospective, non-interventional study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of lumbar medial branch ablation using this technique at 1, 3 and 6 months, as well as to assess patient satisfaction with the procedure. Only clinical data from patients undergoing the procedure in routine clinical practice will be collected.

2024 NewAnescat Register

20 years ago, for the first time in Spain, a record was made of all the activity carried out by a medical speciality, called ANESCAT 2003. After 20 years, the increase in healthcare activity has exceeded the expectations and predictions that were made at the time. Therefore, it is necessary to make a new assessment of the work situation in which our speciality finds itself in order to be able to evaluate whether the increase in resources allocated has been proportional and therefore to be able to have objective data with a view to making new demands and planning future needs.

GEMAS Proyect. Gamification in Nursing and Medicine for Simulation Learning.

The GEMAS project is based on the creation of a virtual serious game in which, by carrying out clinical cases that simulate real environments and episodes of a hospital emergency service, the aim is to improve and reinforce the knowledge of the participants with the use of a new learning methodology. The mapping and creation of several scenarios within the program is carried out, the creation of different characters, both main and secondary, patients and hospital environment, each of them with their graphic representation, characteristics and individual personality. After obtaining the program, which can be used on both computer and mobile platforms, the virtual serious-game will be evaluated with the levels of the Kirkpatrick model to be used as a new learning tool. The degree of satisfaction and usability will be evaluated at the first level, the degree of knowledge acquisition by the participant himself and in comparison with traditional methodologies at the second level, the changes in behavior and transfer of the knowledge learned to the professional field in the third level, and the possibility of knowing the effectiveness of the application for the system will be evaluated. The virtual serious game will allow you to select between the nursing or medicine modality, allowing a greater number of cases to be developed and at the same time, for both stories to be related, so that interdisciplinarity remains intrinsically rooted in the game. The creation of this application will create dynamic learning that will allow greater user satisfaction while learning and a greater degree of knowledge acquisition with respect to traditional methods, ultimately producing changes in work behavior that are favorable for the performance of their profession. .

High-Voltage Pulsed Radiofrequency of the Lumbar Dorsal Root Ganglion for the Treatment of Chronic Lumbar Radicular and Neuropathic Pain; A Prospective, Doble-blinded and Randomized Controlled Trial

The management of chronic lumbar radicular and neuropathic pain is complex and the treatment success rates are low. Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) has been described in these cases. In order to determine whether high-voltage PRF show better results than PRF a prospective, doble-blinded and randomized study is conducted in patients with chronic lumbar radicular and neuropathic pain.
