Type D Personality and Life Satisfaction in Bipolar Disorder Type 2 and Major Depressive Disorder

Bipolar Disorder Type II (BD-II) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) are common mood disorders associated with substantial psychological distress, impaired functioning, and reduced quality of life. BD-II is characterized by recurrent major depressive episodes and hypomanic episodes, whereas MDD is characterized by one or more major depressive episodes without a history of mania or hypomania. Both disorders have a significant genetic component, and family studies suggest that first-degree relatives may exhibit subclinical affective traits, personality characteristics, and psychosocial vulnerabilities related to these conditions. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to examine Type D personality traits and life satisfaction among patients with BD-II and MDD and parents of patients. The study recruited/will recruit 30 patients with BD-II; 30 patients with MDD; 30 healthy control subjects; mothers and/or fathers of 30 healthy control subjects, mothers and/or fathers of 30 patients with BD-II, and mothers and/or fathers of 30 patients with MDD who are in remission and receiving follow-up care at the Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic of Elazığ Fethi Sekin City Hospital, Turkey (By Dilek ÖRÜM -Associate Professor of Psychiatry, [email protected]). Sociodemographic characteristics, Type D personality traits, general psychiatric symptoms, and life satisfaction assessed/will be assessed using validated self-report measures, including the Type D Personality Scale (DS14), the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), and the Adult Life Satisfaction Scale (ALSS). The primary objective was/is to compare Type D personality characteristics and life satisfaction levels between patients with MDD and BD-II and between their parents. Secondary objectives included/include investigating the associations between Type D personality traits, psychiatric symptom severity, and life satisfaction. The findings may contribute to a better understanding of familial psychological characteristics associated with mood disorders and may help identify potential psychosocial targets for preventive and supportive interventions among family members of affected individuals.

Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome in Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder

This cross-sectional observational case-control study aims to investigate symptoms of sluggish cognitive tempo (SCT), also known as cognitive disengagement syndrome (CDS), in adults diagnosed with Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder/Conversion Disorder (FNSD/CD). The study compares SCT/CDS symptoms between patients with FNSD/CD and healthy controls and evaluates their relationship with clinical variables. It is hypothesized that individuals diagnosed with FNSD/CD will exhibit higher levels of SCT/CDS symptoms compared to healthy controls.

Psychiatric Symptom Characteristics in Methamphetamine-Induced Psychosis With and Without Lifetime Cannabis Use

This prospective cohort study aims to investigate factors associated with psychiatric symptom severity in participants diagnosed with methamphetamine-induced psychotic disorder (MP) with and without lifetime cannabis use (LCU). Participants hospitalized at Elazığ Mental Health and Diseases Hospital who meet Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR) criteria for MP will be included. Participants will be divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of LCU. Psychiatric symptoms and clinical characteristics will be assessed weekly during an eight-week inpatient follow-up period using standardized psychometric instruments. The study aims to determine whether LCU influences the course and severity of psychiatric symptoms in MP and to identify environmental, individual, and familial factors associated with symptom progression.

ECG Findings in Methamphetamine Use

This prospective cohort study aims to examine and compare electrocardiogram (ECG) parameters in subjects diagnosed with Methamphetamine Use Disorder (MUD) and Methamphetamine-Induced Psychotic Disorder (MP) during inpatient psychiatric treatment. ECG findings at hospital admission and during remission prior to discharge will be evaluated and compared between groups. The study also aims to determine whether methamphetamine-induced psychosis is associated with greater ECG abnormalities and increased cardiac risk compared to methamphetamine use without psychosis.

Psychiatric Symptom Predictors in Methamphetamine-Induced Psychosis

This longitudinal observational study aimed to investigate environmental, familial, and individual factors associated with psychiatric symptom severity in participants diagnosed with methamphetamine-induced psychotic disorder (MP). Participants diagnosed according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5-TR) criteria was followed/will be followed prospectively for one year. Sociodemographic characteristics, treatment adherence, perceived social support, addiction-related clinical variables, insight levels, and psychotic symptoms was assessed/will be assessed monthly using standardized psychometric instruments. The study aimed to identify predictors associated with relapse-remission patterns and changes in psychiatric symptoms over a one-year follow-up period.

IL-33, sST2, and CRP in Panic Disorder

Panic disorder (PD) is characterized by recurrent and unexpected panic attacks and is associated with significant functional impairment. Increasing evidence suggests involvement of immune-inflammatory mechanisms in PD. Elevated levels of inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) have been reported in PD; however, interleukin-33 (IL-33) and soluble suppressor tumorogenicity-2 (sST2), components of the IL-33/sST2 signaling axis, have not previously been investigated in PD. This cross-sectional case-control study aims to compare peripheral serum IL-33, sST2, and CRP levels between drug-naïve subjects diagnosed with PD and healthy controls (HCs). The findings may contribute to understanding the inflammatory mechanisms underlying PD.

LRFN5 and OLFM4 in Methamphetamine-Induced Psychosis

This cross-sectional observational case-control study aimed to examined serum levels of leucine-rich repeat and fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (LRFN5) and olfactomedin-4 (OLFM4) levels in methamphetamine use disorder (MUD), methamphetamine-induced psychotic disorder (MP), and healthy control (HC) groups. The study also aimed to assessed systemic inflammation using the Aggregate Index of Systemic Inflammation (AISI) and examined associations between biomarkers and clinical symptom severity, including Insight Assessment Scale (IAS) and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) scores.

LRFN5 and OLFM4 in Schizoaffective Disorder

Schizoaffective disorder (SAD) is a chronic psychiatric condition characterized by psychotic and mood symptoms. Emerging evidence suggests that Leucine-Rich Repeat and Fibronectin Type-III Domain-Containing Protein 5 (LRFN5) and olfactomedin-4 (OLFM4) may play roles in synaptic organization, neurodevelopment, and neuroinflammation. However, no prior study has investigated these biomarkers in SAD. This cross-sectional case-control study aims to compare peripheral serum levels of LRFN5 and OLFM4 in subjects diagnosed with SAD in remission and healthy control subjects. The study also assessed associations between these biomarkers and clinical symptom severity, global functioning, and systemic inflammation measured by the Aggregate Index of Systemic Inflammation (AISI). The study aimed to investigate convergent synaptic and immunoinflammatory dysregulation in SAD.
