Development and Measurement of the Effects of a Digital Education Solution for Patients Undergoing Total Hip or Knee Arthroplasty

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a digital patient education solution, CHUVeduc@home, in improving preoperative preparation for patients undergoing total hip or knee arthroplasty. In Switzerland, many patients receive joint replacements each year to relieve osteoarthritis-related pain. With shorter hospital stays, adequate preparation before surgery has become increasingly important. A total of 160 patients will be randomized into two groups: Intervention group: access to CHUVeduc@home before surgery. Control group: standard preoperative preparation (group information session and consultation). All participants will complete questionnaires through the application. No additional visits are required. The intervention lasts approximately 12 weeks. The primary goal is to determine whether digital education increases patient knowledge, confidence, and satisfaction, and facilitates recovery and return home after surgery. Participation is voluntary and can be withdrawn at any time.

Measurement of Spinal Kinematics During Various Movements

Participants will perform movements while receiving different visual cues. Spinal kinematics will be measured during these movements and compared between asymptomatic and CLBP participants. Participants will come for a unique session.

Adapted Physical Activity and Pelvic Floor Function for Pelvic Girdle Pain During Pregnancy

Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) is a common condition during pregnancy, affecting up to two-thirds of women. It can cause significant discomfort, limit daily activities, and reduce quality of life. Current treatment options are limited, and many women continue to experience pain throughout pregnancy and even after childbirth. This study will evaluate whether a structured program of adapted physical activity, with additional individualized pelvic floor rehabilitation when needed, can reduce pelvic girdle pain and improve function during pregnancy. The intervention consists of weekly 60-minute sessions of adapted physical activity, led by a pelvic health physiotherapist, from inclusion until 36-38 weeks of gestation. The exercises focus on lumbopelvic stability, mobility, strengthening, and safe aerobic activity. If a participant presents with pelvic floor dysfunction, individualized rehabilitation may be added in parallel. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group (adapted physical activity ± pelvic floor rehabilitation) or a control group. The control group will receive standard pregnancy follow-up care plus a validated flyer with international recommendations on physical activity during pregnancy but without supervised sessions. The primary outcomes are pain intensity and functional impact of PGP, measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and the Pelvic Girdle Questionnaire (PGQ). Secondary outcomes include self-reported physical activity, pelvic symptoms, pelvic floor function, adherence to the intervention, and acceptability of the program. A total of 40 pregnant women will be enrolled at Hospital La Tour in Geneva, Switzerland. Assessments will take place at three time points: inclusion (≤27 weeks of gestation), late pregnancy (36-38 weeks), and 3 months after delivery. The study is expected to provide new evidence on the benefits of integrating pelvic floor functionality into physical activity programs for pregnant women with PGP. If effective, this approach could inform clinical practice and improve care for women during pregnancy

Structural Validity and Inter-rater Reliabitiliy of the Ataxia Trunk, Lower And Upper Extremity Scale (ATLAS)

Ataxia is a neurological disorder affecting coordination, caused by damage to the cerebellum, brainstem, or related pathways. It can be hereditary (e.g., Friedreich's ataxia) or acquired (e.g., multiple sclerosis, stroke). Though rare, ataxia significantly impacts quality of life and independence. Treatments are limited and mainly focus on multidisciplinary rehabilitation. Accurate assessment is essential, yet current tools like Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) have limitations. This study aims to validate a new scale, named the Ataxia Trunk, Lower And upper extremity Scale (ATLAS), through Rasch analysis, to develop a shorter, reliable version. It will assess internal consistency, construct validity, and inter-rater reliability. For the valitdity part, statistics will be used (1) to see if the different items of the scale are indeed different and complementary to each other, and (2) to compare the results of this scale with other scales already known and valid (SARA, Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS) and Functional Impairment Measurement(FIM)). Secondly, the investigators would like to know whether ATLAS is reliable. In this particular case, the reliability being assessed is inter-rater reliability, i.e. whether all raters give the same score on the items performed by the patient. To carry out such a study, 64 people will be needed to achieve these goals. Each person will complete the 20 items of the ATLAS scale, those of a trunk motor capacity assessment (TIS), and will evaluate his or her functional independence (FIM).
