Delivery Mode Impact on Postoperative Depression

The goal of this observational retrospective cohort study is to examine the association between mode of delivery and early postpartum depressive symptoms in adult women who delivered at Massachusetts General Hospital. Specifically, the study evaluates whether the urgency of cesarean delivery (elective versus emergency) is associated with differences in Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) scores at 6-8 weeks postpartum, compared with elective cesarean delivery and vaginal delivery. The EPDS is a validated 10-item self-report questionnaire with scores ranging from 0 to 30, where higher scores indicate more severe depressive symptoms. The primary questions are whether EPDS scores differ among women undergoing emergency cesarean delivery, elective cesarean delivery, and vaginal delivery, and whether perioperative and obstetric factors are associated with postpartum depressive symptoms. This study involves retrospective analysis of de-identified electronic health record data. Participants will not undergo any study-specific interventions.

Postoperative Assessment of Platelet-Rich Plasma and Platelet-Rich Fibrin in Temporomandibular Joint Surgery

The goal of this observational study is to evaluate postoperative outcomes following temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery and to compare the effectiveness of intraoperative platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) injections in patients with temporomandibular joint disorders. The study includes adult patients who underwent TMJ surgery and received either PRP or PRF intraoperatively. The main questions this study aims to answer are: Whether intraoperative PRP or PRF injection is associated with differences in postoperative pain intensity and recovery. Whether PRP and PRF differ in their effects on postoperative jaw function, including maximum mouth opening and joint symptoms. If there is a comparison group: Researchers will compare patients who received intraoperative PRP with those who received intraoperative PRF to assess differences in postoperative pain, functional outcomes, and joint-related symptoms. Participants will: Have their existing medical records reviewed retrospectively. Provide postoperative outcome data derived from routine clinical follow-up, with no prospective recruitment or intervention.

Imagined Acupuncture for Postoperative Pain After Spinal Surgery

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate whether imagined acupuncture can reduce postoperative acute pain in adult patients undergoing spinal surgery. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does video-guided imagined acupuncture improve postoperative pain control? Does the intervention reduce opioid consumption and improve functional recovery in the immediate postoperative period? Researchers will compare the imagined acupuncture group to the control education video group to see if imagery-based intervention leads to better pain outcomes and reduced analgesic use. Participants will: Watch a 30-minute video once daily for 7 consecutive days after surgery Complete pain and function assessments during the hospital stay and postoperative follow-up
