Disease Extent in Stage IV Lobular Carcinoma: the Aid of Imaging and Liquid Biopsy Analyses

Metastatic invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) is a distinct breast cancer subtype characterized by loss of E-cadherin and a diffuse growth pattern that makes metastases difficult to detect with standard imaging such as computed tomography (CT) or 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography (18F-FDG PET)/CT. As a result, disease burden in patients with ILC is frequently underestimated, progression is identified later than clinically optimal, and many patients are excluded from clinical trials due to insufficiently measurable disease. Whole-body diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (WB-DWI/MRI) is a radiation-free imaging technique that has demonstrated improved sensitivity for detecting metastases-including peritoneal, bone, and nodal disease-in ILC. Retrospective studies suggest that WB-DWI/MRI can identify clinically relevant progression not visible on standard imaging. However, prospective evidence in ILC is lacking. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) has also shown promise as a minimally invasive biomarker for monitoring treatment response, with early molecular changes often preceding radiologic progression, but data specific to ILC remain limited. The DELILA study is a prospective, multicenter clinical trial conducted at University Hospitals Leuven and Institut Jules Bordet. The study aims to enroll 43 patients starting first-line systemic therapy for metastatic hormone receptor positive human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative (HR+/HER2-) ILC. Participants undergo serial dual imaging-WB-DWI/MRI and standard-of-care imaging-at baseline, at 1 month, and approximately every 3 months for up to 30 months or until disease progression. At each imaging time point, blood samples are collected for ctDNA analysis and Ca15.3 tumor marker assessment. Patient-reported psychological burden related to repeated imaging and blood sampling is evaluated using validated questionnaires. The primary objective is to assess the added value of WB-DWI/MRI in detecting disease progression that informs clinical decision-making compared to standard imaging. Secondary objectives include evaluating whether ctDNA or Ca15.3 dynamics reflect disease evolution, assessing measurability of lesions with Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) v1.1 and MRI-specific criteria, identifying early biomarkers of treatment response using Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC) changes and ctDNA kinetics, and characterizing the psychological impact of trial procedures. This study will provide the first adequately powered prospective evidence on the clinical utility of WB-DWI/MRI and liquid biopsy monitoring in metastatic ILC. Results may support implementation of WB-DWI/MRI as a routine imaging strategy, guide imaging frequency through biomarker-informed approaches, and improve patient experience and trial eligibility for individuals living with metastatic ILC.

Effect of Foot Position During Rehabilitation of Achilles Tendinopathy on Tendon Mechanics and Symptoms.

This study will investigate whether a 12-week load-based exercise program performed with an externally rotated foot position ("toes-out") leads to different changes in intra-tendinous sliding, symptoms, and function compared to a standard exercise program performed with a neutral foot position in individuals with mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy. In addition, physical activity will be monitored during and after the intervention to examine how daily loading patterns relate to symptoms and functional recovery over a 6-month period.

Effect of IMT in Patients After Acute Exacerbations of COPD

The goal of this clinical trial is to test whether home-based inspiratory muscle training can reduce hospital readmissions and death in patients recovering from a severe acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). The main questions this study aims to answer are: Does adding home-based inspiratory muscle training to usual care lower the risk of all-cause hospital readmission or death within 180 days after discharge? Does inspiratory muscle training improve respiratory muscle strength, symptoms of dyspnea, quality of life, and functional capacity compared to usual care? Researchers will compare patients randomized to: Intervention group: Home-based inspiratory muscle training plus usual care Control group: Usual care only to see if inspiratory muscle training leads to fewer readmissions and deaths, and better patient-reported and physiological outcomes. Participants will: Be hospitalized for ≥3 days due to AECOPD, age ≥35 years, able to consent, and own a compatible smartphone. In the intervention group, receives usual care and additionally inspiratory muscle training: Inspiratory muscle training twice daily for 90 days, then once daily up to day 180, with remote telemonitoring via a smartphone app and online supervised sessions. The control group will continue with usual care (pharmacological treatment, smoking cessation advice, vaccinations, and referral to pulmonary rehabilitation if available). Follow-up assessments will include hospital readmissions, survival, and quality of life questionnaires up to 12 months after discharge.

Postprandial Effect of Isocaloric Challenge Meals Enriched With Indigenous Fruits and Vegetables on Glucose Metabolism in Individuals With Type 2 Diabetes in Wakiso District, Uganda

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate changes in glucose and lipid levels after consuming challenge meals enriched with selected indigenous fruits and vegetables in people living with type 2 diabetes in Wakiso district. The main question to answer is: Does the consumption of challenge meals enriched with indigenous fruits and vegetables improve glucose and lipid levels among people living with type 2 diabetes? Researchers will compare the effects of different challenge meals on glucose and lipid levels to identify the indigenous fruit and vegetable with the strongest glucose- and lipid-lowering effects. Participants will: Consume five challenge meals over 5 weeks. Visit the study site after a 5-7 day rest period to consume the challenge meal and complete the tests.

A Prospective Multicenter Diagnostic Biomarker Study to Discriminate Borderline From Stage I Invasive Ovarian Cancer

The study aims to improve the diagnosis of ovarian cancer by distinguishing between borderline ovarian tumors (BOT) and stage I invasive ovarian cancer. Other than the traditional diagnostic biomarker CA125, the previous study TRANS-IOTA (translational-international ovarian tumor analysis; S51375/S59207), conducted by similar investigators, pointed at biomarkers like HE4, CA72.4, CA15.3, and CCL11, as potential markers to discriminate BOT from stage I cancer. BIOC is the follow-up study, which will include four additional promising biomarkers to expand the panel to nine. The investigators aim to confirm whether a subpanel of these nine biomarkers has diagnostic value. Such a biomarker signature would enhance the accuracy of distinguishing between BOT and stage I invasive ovarian cancer before surgery, leading to more precise treatment and improved patient outcomes.

Effects of a Robot-based Sensorimotor Upper Limb Rehabilitation Paradigm in Chronic Stroke

Sensorimotor function of the upper limb is commonly impaired after stroke, even in the chronic phase (\>6 months post-stroke). Nevertheless, good sensorimotor function is needed for daily life functioning. Sensorimotor function can be divided into three components: exteroception, proprioception and sensory processing. It is important that those three components will each be addressed in the upper limb rehabilitation. Unfortunately, there is still no optimal therapy to address sensory processing. Therefore, the investigators developed an intensive sensorimotor robot-based rehabilitation paradigm (called ROBUST) with focus on sensory processing. As a first step, the investigators did a pilot study (S69003) including 10 persons with chronic stroke to investigate the potential effectiveness and feasibility of this novel rehabilitation. The median change score of motor, sensory and sensorimotor assessments was exceeding the minimal clinical important difference (MCID), and the total amount of therapy was feasible as well. The investigated protocols to measure potential changes in brain function (activity and connectivity) and structure accompanying the novel therapy appeared feasible as well. Based on this first pilot study, the investigators finalized the protocol for this RCT to investigate the effectiveness of the ROBUST intervention.

AID-FOG: Artificial Intelligence-Driven Freezing of Gait Detection in the Home

Freezing of gait (FOG) is a debilitating symptom of Parkinson's disease increases the risk of falling. Despite being a common symptom, it is still difficult to evaluate freezing of gait quickly and accurately. Currently, the gold-standard method to determine the severity of FOG is a manual analysis of video footage by an experienced assessor, collected during standardized FOG-provoking walking tests. Because this is a very time-intensive process, where different assessors sometimes obtain different results, our team at KU Leuven have developed an artificial-intelligent (AI) algorithm trained to identify FOG episodes based on wearable inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor data. The AI algorithm has already undergone initial validation during laboratory testing, yielding promising results. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the AI algorithm can accurately detect FOG episodes in a less controlled environment, namely the home environment. In a second phase, the investigators will also use the collected data to improve the AI algorithm for automated FOG detection in the home. Finally, the investigators want to explore whether the AI algorithm can detect FOG in real-time.

The Effect of CBD on Sleep Quality Following Late Evening Exercise

The trial is a double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover design. In a randomized order, 20 participants undergo one control and two experimental sessions separated by a 1-week wash out period. During the no exercise/rest session, participants' sleep is monitored via polysomnography following a rest day. During the training sessions participants' sleep is monitored following a high intensity interval training (HIIT) in the late evening (finishing 1h prior to bedtime). During these sessions participants receive 2x 200mg CBD or placebo in a randomized order.

Automated CPET Interpretation: International Validation Study

The goal of this observational experimental study is to validate a rule-based algorithm to automate CPET interpretation. The endpoints of this study are the following: * The change in agreement between key opinion leaders (KOLs) and the algorithm-generated CPET interpretation reports, comparing baseline to the end of the 6 month study period. * Baseline agreement between KOLs and the algorithm * Agreement at 6 months between KOLs and the algorithm * Change in self-reported confidence scores before and after using the automated report * Feedback on automated protocols generated via the platform during the 6-month implementation period * Descriptive evaluation of center-level CPET interpretation reports practices at three timepoints Patients referred for a CPET will be included to collect observational data without interference within clinical routine. KOLs will be recruited from participating centres to fill out a survey for CPET interpretations.

Personalized Care Pathways for Bowel Symptoms in Rectal Cancer patients_development of E-diary

Colorectal cancer is the 2nd and 3rd most common cancer in respectively women and men, of which about 40% is located in the rectum. The gold standard treatment for rectal cancer (RC) is a low anterior resection, combined with chemoradiotherapy. However, this treatment will negatively impact different aspects of bowel function and the patients' quality of life. These bowel symptoms often remain prevalent, even at 12 months after RC treatment. Most assessment tools are however not capable of capturing the full range or therapeutic-related evolution of these bowel symptoms. Consequently, the aim is to develop a validated bowel diary for diagnosing and evaluation of all bowel symptoms. In recent years, organ-preserving strategies such as Watch and Wait have become more widely implemented. Although these patients avoid surgical morbidity, emerging evidence shows that neoadjuvant radiotherapy alone can also cause substantial and persistent bowel dysfunction. Therefore, the study population was expanded to include patients managed with a Watch and Wait strategy in addition to those undergoing TME/PME.

Cerebellar Research in Ultrasound Stimulation

Experiment 1: Modulation of Physiological Tremor in Healthy Volunteers Thirty healthy volunteers will undergo TUS targeting the dentate nucleus in a randomized, double-blinded crossover design. Tremor amplitude, induced by a 15 g weight, will be measured using an accelerometer, and EEG will assess neural oscillations and cerebello-thalamo-cortical connectivity. Stimulation will include short-term (1 minute on/off for 12 minutes) and long-term (30 minutes) protocols, as well as closed-loop TUS for phase-specific effects. This experiment aims to optimize stimulation parameters and explore the dentate nucleus's role in tremor generation. Experiment 2: Tremor Modulation in Essential Tremor Patients Thirty ET patients will receive TUS targeting the dentate nucleus with optimized parameters from Experiment 1 in a randomized crossover design. The best protocol from previous experiment will be tested here. Tremor amplitude and EEG will be recorded to assess short- and long-term effects of TUS on pathological tremor.

Belgian Lung Function Study

Currently, it remains unclear how to manage serial lung function measurements in a clinical setting. The investigators aimed to tackle this problem by developing a machine learning (ML) model that can accurately predict population and individual lung function trajectories. These predictions would enable the investigators to identify positive or negative deviations, thereby revealing unexpected disease patterns. A prospective validation is needed that includes data on mortality, hospitalisations, emergency-room visits and patient-reported outcomes. Within this study, the goal is to validate the ML model with the data collected from this observational study.

Measuring Nerve Activity in Small Human Intestinal Biopsies in IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)

Rectal biopsies from IBS patients or healthy subjects will be taken. Biopsies will be used for: 1. the isolation of submucosal plexus to perform: 1.1 live nerve recordings and Calcium imaging; 1.2 immunohistochemistry; 1.3 mRNA (Messenger ribonucleic acids) isolation and real time PCR (Polymerase chain reaction); 2. culturing biopsies On the basis of these observations, the general aim of the study is to move a significant step forward in the current knowledge on human ENS (enteric nervous system) in IBS by establishing a live imaging method to record enteric nerves activity in small intestinal biopsies from humans. This development is unique in its kind as not other research groups have reported successful live recordings with calcium imaging in this preparation. In particular, the investigators aim: 1. to develop and validate the technique to measure activity in human enteric nerves in the submucous plexus isolated from rectal biopsies from healthy subjects and IBS patients; 2. to characterize this nerve activity in healthy subjects and IBS patients using both calcium imaging to evaluate the effect of different neuromodulators, immunohistochemistry and rtPCR to determine receptor expression levels and identify neurons and glial cells in the submucous ganglia; 3. to investigate whether the biopsies of IBS patients secrete more modulators/cytokines compared to healthy subjects and their potential to activate neurons. 4. to evaluate the influence of different food constituents (cow"s milk, wheat, yeast, gluten and soy) on the local reaction of the rectal mucosa and evaluate mast cell activation/degranulation in biopsies of IBS patients compared to healthy subjects. 5. Aha BOOST Arm-hand BOOST Therapy to Enhance Recovery After Stroke: Clinical, Health Economic and Process Evaluation

The overall aim of this study is to establish the clinical- and cost-effectiveness of the arm-hand BOOST therapy when delivered on top of the usual care program in the sub-acute phase post stroke and to perform a process evaluation. In this phase III RCT, 80 patients with stroke will be recruited from two inpatient stroke rehabilitation wards in Belgium and randomized to the experimental group receiving arm-hand BOOST therapy or the control group receiving the L-BOOST intervention, on top of their usual inpatient care program. The arm-hand BOOST program (1 hour/day, 5x/week, 4 weeks) consists of group exercises based on four key aspects, namely neurophysiology, sequences of reaching and grasping, de-weighting of the arm, and orientation of the hand towards objects. Additionally, technology-supported upper limb therapy will be provided two times 30 minutes per week. The L-BOOST intervention comprises a dose-matched program of lower limb exercises and general reconditioning. At baseline, after 4 weeks of training, 3 months after the intervention and at 12 months post stroke, outcome assessment will be performed. The primary outcome measure is the action research arm test (ARAT). Secondary outcomes include measures in the domain of upper limb function and capacity, independence, participation and quality of life. Multivariate ANOVA and sensitivity analyses will be used to compare change from baseline between groups. Information on medical costs will be collected to allow a health economic evaluation. Finally, a process evaluation will be performed to assist in identifying why arm-hand BOOST succeeds or fails unexpectedly or has unanticipated consequences, and how this can be optimized. At the start of this study the investigators hypothesize that: (I) Aha BOOST will result in a significant greater improvement in arm-hand activity post-intervention, at follow-up and 12 months post stroke compared to control therapy (L-BOOST); (II) Aha BOOST will result in a significant greater improvement in upper limb function, performance, independence and activity of daily living, and participation post-intervention, at follow up and 12 months post stroke. (III) Investing in 24 hours of extra arm-hand therapy to subacute stroke patient in the inpatient rehabilitation setting can reduce the health-economic and societal cost 12 months post stroke.

Peer-modeled Intervention

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the effects of a peer-led behavioural change intervention on the cardio-metabolic health of women aged 18 to 49 years. The main question it aims to answer is: -Does a peer-led behavioural change intervention improve the cardio-metabolic health of women aged 18 to 49 years? Researchers will compare food literacy, physical literacy, and awareness with a comparison arm that receives only information on doable actions to improve cardio-metabolic health in a small booklet. The participants will: * Participants in the intervention arm will have group activities on food literacy, physical literacy and awareness for 3 months of the active phase of the intervention. * The participants in the intervention arm will be followed up with a phone call in between the active phase of the intervention. * At the beginning of the study, the participants in the comparison arm will receive a small booklet with inforgraphics on ways to improve their cardio-metabolic health, with no further contact. * All the participants will not be contacted in any form for the next 3 months after the active phase of the intervention. * The participants will be measured for their waist circumference, fat mass, blood pressure, lipid and glucose levels, and arterial stiffness. * The participants will also be assessed for physical activity levels, dietary intake, body size preferences, self-efficacy, social support, self-monitoring, and self-esteem.

Point-of-Care Troponin Testing in the Emergency Department

The goal of this study is to evaluate whether a POC-guided testing strategy to exclude non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) in acute chest pain patients presenting at the emergency department (ED) can result in a shorter length of stay compared to the routine central laboratory testing strategy. Currently, most often two high-sensitivity troponin (hs-cTn) tests are required for exclusion of NSTEMI, and central laboratories are struggling to achieve the recommended turnaround time of 60 minutes. Novel POC hs-cTn testing technology can provide results in minutes, potentially reducing the ED length of stay. This may lead to a reduction in ED crowding, which is a growing worldwide healthcare problem, resulting in poorer patient outcomes. This study may therefore improve patient burden, ED staff workload, and lead to more efficient expenditure of healthcare resources. We will perform a prospective, cross-sectional, interventional, single-center, open label, randomized trial. All consecutive patients older than 18 years and younger than 75 years presenting at the UZ Leuven emergency department with chest pain or chest pain-equivalent symptoms suspected of an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) will be invited to participate in the study. After informed consent patients will be randomized into the point-of-care testing (POCT) group or the usual care group. Patients in the POCT group will undergo the novel POC test-guided strategy. In the POC strategy the first hs-cTnI test shortly after admission to the ED will be performed on the POC Atellica VTLi. The second test will be performed with the usual central laboratory hs-cTnT test. Patients in the usual care group will undergo the usual testing strategy with one or two hs-cTnT tests performed in the hospital's central laboratory.

Locomotor Muscle Oxygenation and Activation During Acute Interval Compared to Constant-load Bed-cycling Exercise

Up to 60% of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with a prolonged stay in the ICU develop complications such as intensive care unit acquired weakness (ICUAW) characterized by limb and respiratory muscle weakness. ICUAW is associated with worse prognosis, longer ICU stay and increased morbidity and mortality. Physical therapy (PT) interventions in the intensive care unit (ICU), can improve patients' outcomes. However, improvements in muscle function achieved with standard physical activity interventions aiming at early mobilization are highly variable due to lack of consistency in definition of the interventions, lack of consideration for the complexity of exercise dose and/or insufficient stimulation of muscles during interventions. It has been suggested that modifying early mobilization and exercise protocols towards shorter intervals consisting of higher intensity exercises might result in more optimal stimulation of muscles. In the present study the researchers therefore aim to simultaneously assess (by non-invasive technologies) locomotor muscle oxygenation and activation along with the measurements of the load imposed on respiration and circulation during two different training modalities i.e., moderate intensity continuous bed-cycling (endurance training) vs high-intensity alternated by lower intensity periods of bed-cycling (interval training).

Improving Our Understanding of Respiratory Muscle Training to Facilitate Weaning From Mechanical Ventilation in the ICU

Mechanical ventilation is a life-saving treatment frequently applied in intensive care unit (ICU). Nonetheless, by putting at rest the respiratory muscles, it can lead to respiratory muscle weakness and atrophy, which are accompanied by prolonged duration of mechanical ventilation, difficult weaning and increased ICU mortality. Despite a strong theoretical rationale and some evidence supporting the use of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) to address respiratory muscle weakness and atrophy, the optimal approach to IMT remains largely uncertain. In fact, mechanistic studies evaluating physiological adaptations that occur in respiratory muscles of mechanically ventilated patients in response to different training regimens have not been conducted so far. The aim of this study is to comprehensively investigate changes in respiratory muscle function in response to three different conditions that patients will be exposed to during their period of weaning from mechanical ventilation.

Prescription Support System for Antimicrobial Use in Belgian Primary Care

Inappropriate antibiotic prescribing in primary care remains an important contributor to antimicrobial resistance. Despite the availability of evidence-based clinical guidelines, antibiotics are still frequently prescribed for self-limiting infections. Digital clinical decision support tools may help general practitioners (GPs) align prescribing decisions with guideline recommendations during patient consultations. This study evaluates the impact of a digital Prescription Support System (PSS) designed to support antimicrobial prescribing in Belgian primary care. The PSS provides guideline-based recommendations derived from the Belgian BAPCOC guidelines for common infections in ambulatory care. Recommendations are presented through a user-friendly decision tree that is integrated into existing electronic health record systems and can be consulted during routine care. The study is embedded within the national implementation strategy of the PSS coordinated by the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (RIZIV-INAMI). A stepped-wedge cluster randomized design is used, in which participating general practices transition sequentially from usual care to access to the PSS over four predefined implementation steps. This approach ensures that all participating practices eventually receive access to the system while allowing comparisons over time. The primary objective is to assess whether implementation of the PSS is associated with changes in antibiotic prescribing in Belgian general practice. Prescribing outcomes are measured using routinely collected indicators from the Belgian Antibiotic Barometer, including overall antibiotic prescribing rates and the use of broad- versus narrow-spectrum antibiotics. Secondary objectives include assessing the usability and acceptability of the PSS among clinicians and identifying factors that influence its adoption in daily practice. The study will also monitor potential unintended consequences, such as changes in workflow or concerns about underprescribing. Findings from this study will inform future decisions regarding further optimization and wider implementation of the PSS in Belgian primary care.

Molecular Analysis for Gastro-Esophageal Cancer: Multicenter Discrete Choice Experiment

The goal of this survey is to investigate the participants' preference for a specific screening/diagnostic tool to detect and assess gastro-esophageal cancer. The main question it aims to answer are: * Which diagnostic modality is preferred by patients and the general population? * Which features of the diagnostic test are most detrimental in the decision-making for one or the other modality? * Are geographical differences present in regard to the preference for a diagnostic modality? Participants will be asked to complete a survey of 20-25min, including a brief intake regarding their socio-economic status. This approach will allow us to correct for confounding factors.

Molecular Assessment for Gastro-Esophageal Cancer

The goal of this minimally invasive interventional study is to learn if oncometabolic biomarkers, detected in the exhaled breath and blood can identify early-stage gastro-oesophageal cancer in patient at risk for gastro-oesophageal cancer. The main questions this study aims to answer: Are oncometabolites proficient and reproducible enough to function as diagnostic biomarkers? Can these biomarkers identify early-stage gastro-esophageal cancer? Researchers will compare participants with gastro-oesophageal cancer to healthy controls and participants with Barrett's esophagus to detect meaningful differences between the groups. Participants will provide a breath and blood sample during their routine standard of care visits.

The Acute Effect of Exercise Type And Timing on Ambulatory Blood Pressure and Intra-Ocular Pressure in Individuals With Glaucoma (The ACHIEVE-project).

ACHIEVE aims to determine whether exercise can be a safe and effective non-drug approach to improve blood pressure control in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Although exercise is a promising and potentially well-accepted therapy, its use in clinical care is limited because the safety and effectiveness of different exercise types (aerobic, isometric, moderate, or high intensity) and timing (morning versus evening) have not been systematically studied in people with POAG and elevated blood pressure. This study will evaluate the safety and short-term effects of different exercise modalities and timings on 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure and blood pressure variability in patients with POAG and elevated blood pressure. It is hypothesized that: * Each exercise session will lead to a temporary reduction in blood pressure (post-exercise hypotension). * The greatest and longest-lasting reduction will occur after high-intensity aerobic exercise performed in the morning. It is also expected that all exercise types and timings will be safe for participants.

Personalized Care Pathways for Bowel Symptoms in Rectal Cancer Patients_contributing Factors (Treatable)

Colorectal cancer is the 2nd and 3rd most common cancer in respectively women and men, of which about 40% is located in the rectum. The gold standard treatment for rectal cancer (RC) is a low anterior resection combined with chemoradiotherapy. However, this treatment negatively affects various aspects of bowel function and patients' quality of life. These bowel symptoms often remain prevalent, even 12 months after RC treatment. The aim of this study is to identify the factors contributing to persistent bowel symptoms and their long-term impact on quality of life following treatment for rectal cancer, assessed 12 months after surgery or stoma closure in surgically treated patients, and 12 months after completion of neoadjuvant therapy in patients managed with active surveillance/watch-and-wait. These insights are crucial for developing an effective care approach, as they help determine when specific evaluations should be conducted and which treatments should be applied at different stages.

The Influence of Chemotherapy on Position Sense

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is one of the most prevalent side-effects of chemotherapy, causing sensory and motor symptoms in patients. CIPN development is especially prevalent in chemotherapy treatment involving platinum- and taxane-based agents. The accompanying pain and deficits greatly impact the quality of life of these patients. Currently, patients are assessed for altered somatosensory using quantitative sensory testing (QST). The German Research Network on Neuropathic Pain (DFNS) has developed a standardized protocol which has been internationally recognized as approach for performing the QST. However, for proprioception the QST is limited to vibration assessments, making it limited as the only test to measure proprioception. Therefore, a comprehensive assessment of the proprioceptive functions is needed to better understand the influence CIPN has on the proprioception of patients, and thereby their quality of life. In this project the effects of chemotherapy on somatosensory and proprioceptive functioning of breast cancer patients will be assessed in a cross-sectional study. This will be tested by comparing two groups of breast cancer patients and a healthy control group. Both patient groups will have undergone surgery for breast cancer, however, only one group will be tested after undergoing additional chemotherapy treatment. Thereby, the effects of chemotherapy between the surgery-only patient group and the chemotherapy patient group can tested. Furthermore, the investigators will compare both patient groups to sex- and age-matched healthy controls.
