Mitigating Neural Hypoexcitability and Weakness During Disuse in Women

Clinical trial The goal of this clinical trial is to learn how muscle weakness and atrophy develop during short periods of arm immobilization and whether a type of exercise called cross-education can help reduce these effects in women at midlife. The main questions it aims to answer are: What changes happen in the nervous system that lead to weakness when a wrist is immobilized? Can training the opposite arm help maintain muscle strength, muscle size, and nervous system function in the immobilized arm? Researchers will compare women who have their wrist immobilized with or without opposite-arm resistance training. Participants will: Wear a wrist cast on one arm for 7 days Complete strength training with the opposite arm or no training, depending on their group Attend study visits for strength and nervous system testing Have non-invasive tests (like magnetic brain stimulation, muscle recordings, and muscle imaging) to measure how the nervous system and muscle responds

Using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to Treat Stuttering

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if repeated transcranial magnetic stimuli (rTMS) can treat stuttering in adults. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Will there be changes in the brains of people who stutter because of the treatment? * Will any changes in the brain result in less stuttering? Participants will: * Visit the lab 3 times before treatment for tests * Complete 10 rTMS sessions * Visit the lab 2 times after treatment for tests

Data Coaching Process to Address Staff Physical Activity Promoting Behavior and Child Physical Activity

The goal of this study is to determine whether a data coaching process called Out of School Time Coach (OST-Coach) can increase child physical activity (PA) behavior, perceived motor competence, and staff PA-promoting practices. Aim 1: Determine the impact that the OST-Coach intervention has on child PA behavior and perceived motor competence. The investigators hypothesize that integrating a targeted data coaching system will increase the amount of PA children engage in during the OST program and enhance their perceived motor competence compared to sites receiving standard practice. Aim 2: Assess the impact of the OST-Coach intervention on staff PA-promoting practices. The investigators will measure the effectiveness of the OST-Coach intervention by observing staff behavior and assessing their willingness to integrate evidence-based practices during OST programming. It is hypothesized that OST leaders at intervention sites will implement more PA-promoting practices. Child physical activity will be measured via systematic observation and a survey assessing perceived motor competence. Staff PA-promoting behaviors will be observed via systematic observation and evaluated through a survey to understand the impact of the data coaching process. The intervention is delivered at the staff level, with feedback provided four times throughout the academic year.

Promoting Active Therapy: Path to Wellness

This project will examine changes in depression and anxiety following a 10-week intervention promoting nature-based physical activity in mental health settings. We will recruit ten licensed therapists whose caseload includes adults with depression and anxiety. Following a training by our team, each participating therapist will recruit six clients, who will be randomly assigned to the intervention or control condition. Clients in the intervention condition will engage in walk-and-talk therapy outdoors during weekly sessions and discuss strategies for being active outdoors on their own. We will assess changes in depression, anxiety, and nature-based physical activity in both groups.
