Maximal and Self-selected Walkingspeed After Knee Arthroplasty - a Prospective Cohort Study

The purpose of this prospective study is to explore whether maximal and self-selected walking speed in individuals with knee arthroplasty is a useful and applicable clinical measure that can provide new insights into physical function after prosthetic surgery. We will examine the progression of walking speed and other measures of physical function, and investigate if walking speed can predict postoperative function. Individuals over 55 years, scheduled for knee arthroplasty will be invited to participate. Standardized functional tests such as walking speed, sit to stand and one legged stance along with patient reported outcomes will be assessed preoperatively, three months and 12 months after surgery. The study may provide useful knowledge that can be aplied clinically in the assessment and follow-up of this patient group.

From Rotator Cuff Repair to Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty - Clinical and Radiological Results

In the planned study the investigators will invite 733 participants 10 years after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair to a follow up examination. Shoulder pain is a common problem in the Norwegian population. Rotator cuff tear is a major cause of shoulder pain with a reported prevalence of up to 51% in patients 60-80 years of age. Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is performed in an increasing proportion of these patients. Good results in shoulder function has been reported, although there is a lack in published good quality studies and long term follow up of these patients. There is also a lack of evidence regarding the association between radiologically-verified re-tear and clinical outcome. In this project, the investigators address these critical gaps in knowledge and aim to investigate the factors influencing the clinical outcome after rotator cuff surgery and re-tear in a large prospective cohort study. The investigators will investigate how many participants suffering from poor outcome and develop cuff arthropathy in need of reverse shoulder arthroplasty after 10 years.

Does BIO-RSA Provides Superior Clinical Outcome Compared to Conventional RSA?

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare two different types of reverse shoulder replacements. Researchers will compare a conventional reverse shoulder replacement with a lateralized reverse shoulder replacement to see if there is a difference in how well the patients function after two years.

Tailored Health Literacy Follow-up in Cancer

Health literacy refers to personal and relational factors affecting a persons ability to aquire, understand and use health information and health services. In a need assessment study, it was found that there is a need to focus on health literacy factors in the follow-up of people with cancer in the health care services. Thus, this project evaluate the effect of a health literacy intervention in cancer. The intervention provides patients with nurse-led tailored follow-up by phone/digital/personal meetings that addresses their individual HL needs, particularly those needs that impact their quality of life, symptom burden, self-management, and health economic costs. Our main goal is to improve the patients' health literacy, with secondary goals of improving their quality of life, symptom burden, and self-management, and reducing their health care costs.

Sucrase-isomaltase Deficiency as a Cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder causing troublesome symptoms and reduced quality of life. It affects 10-20% of the population, hence creates large costs for society. About 30-40% of all IBS patients do not benefit from current treatment options. Sucrase-isomaltase (SI) deficiency is an unexplored condition, that may explain symptoms in IBS patients who experience no effect from today's treatments. Currently, a duodenal biopsy is the gold standard for the diagnosis of SI deficiency, however the condition is not well investigated. A 13C-labelled breath test holds promise as a non-invasive alternative, but it has not previously been validated. This project will address the knowledge gap related to a possible association between SI deficiency and IBS by addressing two research questions that have never been answered before. We aim to: 1. Validate the 13C-labelled breath test as a diagnostic tool by assessing the strength of the association between the breath test and SI activity measured in duodenal biopsies 2. Use the 13C-labelled breath test in a randomized dietary crossover trial comparing a starch and sucrose reduced diet (SSRD) with the standard low-FODMAP diet in IBS patients, to evaluate whether SI activity is associated with dietary changes according to symptom severity and gut microbiota composition
