Tuberculosis Clinical Registry in Europe

The TBnet registry is a multinational, prospective tuberculosis registry established by the Tuberculosis Network European Trialsgroup (TBnet e.V.) to collect and analyze long-term data from TB patients across Europe. Its purpose is to centralize data on TB epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment to improve care, support research, and ultimately help eliminate TB. The registry captures risk factors, diagnostic details (e.g., microbiology, imaging, drug resistance), treatment data, side effects, outcomes, and late complications.

Investigation of the Effects of Oxidized Antigens on the T-Cell Response and the Epigenetic Reprogramming of Neutrophils in Lung Diseases - OXIGENE -

The OXIGENE study is a research project that aims to better understand how the immune system behaves in people with lung diseases such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and viral lung infections. By analyzing a single blood sample, the study examines how certain immune cells react during inflammation and infection, and whether lasting changes in these cells influence how strongly the body responds to disease. Although participants do not receive direct medical benefit, the results may help improve future diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases by providing deeper insight into immune responses.

Environmental Reservoirs of Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria in Cystic Fibrosis Households: A Case-control Study of Exposure Risk at Home

This multicenter, non-interventional case-control study investigates whether household environmental reservoirs, particularly water systems, are associated with non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections in people with cystic fibrosis. Environmental samples from the homes of CF patients with and without NTM infection will be analyzed and genetically compared with available clinical isolates, alongside assessment of environmental risk factors, to improve understanding of exposure pathways and inform future prevention strategies.

Sputum-free Diagnostis of TB

The aim of this study is to identify new biomarkers that enable reliable, non-invasive diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB), including in patients who are unable to produce sputum. The study analyzes biomaterials (blood, urine, stool, sputum) collected from patients with suspected TB. Various diagnostic methods are applied to assess the feasibility of individual and combined biomarker tests. Participating patients will provide biomaterial samples (blood, urine, stool, sputum) once. No additional examinations or invasive procedures will be performed. Routine diagnostic procedures remain unaffected. This is a single-center, prospective observational study. Patients are enrolled as part of their clinical care at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.

Treatment Monitoring for NTM Infections With a Symptom Diary

The primary aim of the study is to investigate the correlation between patient-reported symptoms recorded in the diary and the microbiological and radiological disease course in patients with pulmonary infections caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM).

Improving the Outcomes of Children With Tuberculosis Through Innovative Diagnostics and Treatment Monitoring

This study aims at identifying and evaluating novel diagnostic methods for children evaluated for respiratory tuberculosis. The investigators will use alternative samples like stool, urine, and masks to diagnose children with respiratory tuberculosis. Once diagnosed, the investigators will use target next generation sequencing to determine if the bacillus is resistant to any of the drugs used for treatment. Additionally, children initiated under TB treatment will be followed-up during treatment to measure blood biomarkers for outcome prediction. Finally, spirometry will be performed longitudinally until 3 months after the end of treatment to assess the lung capacity of children treated for respiratory TB. All children initiated on TB treatment will fill in a quality of life questionnaire.
