Early-Onset Myopia Intervention Project

The prevalence of myopia among children has been increasing year by year, which has become a globle public health issue. Studies have shown that defocusing lenses and atroping eyedrops can control the progression of myopia, but there is little evidence of its efficacy in myopia intervention of young pre-schoolers who will face a greater risk of progression to high myopia later in life. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of spectacle lenses with highly aspherical lenslets (Essilor's Stellest) , as well as 0.01% and 0.05% low concentration atropine eyedrops in myopia intervention among young children aged 3-6.

A Comparative Study of the Results of Dynamic and OPD Static Measurement of Pupil Diameter Before and After Cataract Surgery by Pupil Detectors

Age-related cataract remains the leading cause of blindness in developing countries. And, with the aging of the population in these countries, the number of cataract patients will continue to grow. With accurate biological measurements and the implantation of a suitable IOL, most cataract patients can achieve good distance vision after surgery. Studies have shown differences in pupil diameter and sensitivity in patients with different refractive states, with correlations to accommodation status as well as refractive error. The pupil is an important factor to be evaluated during the selection of an artificial lens (Intraocular lens, IOL), especially a functional IOL. Among the various instruments used for preoperative cataract biological measurements, the light source is mostly a fixed parameter, and the static pupil diameter measurement by fixed illumination light source detection as an evaluation method is relatively rough. In this study, we are going to simulate different illumination states in daily life and set up two kinds of measurement instruments, namely, OPD and binocular pupil detector, so as to obtain more realistic research results and to explore the following: 1. The static and dynamic measurement of pupil diameter by people of different refractive states in different periods of preoperative and postoperative period. 2. Whether there is a difference between the static and dynamic pupil measurement results, 2. the change of pupil size under the stimulation of different light sources, and to compare the difference between the two detection methods, to provide objective pupil indexes for the more scientific selection of functional IOLs, to provide a basis for the selection of more accurate pupil measurement methods, to accurately screen the population of the use of functional IOLs, and to improve the patient's satisfaction after the operation. Purpose of the study To simulate the difference between the preoperative and postoperative pupil diameters of cataract patients measured by static and dynamic methods under daily illumination, to select a more accurate pupil measurement method, and to make corrections for the evaluation of preoperative biometric indexes.

A Dynamic Study of Pupil Diameter After Artificial Lens Implantation in Patients With High Myopia

Age-related cataract remains the leading cause of blindness in developing countries. And, with the aging of the population in these countries, the number of cataract patients will continue to grow. With accurate biological measurements and the implantation of appropriate IOLs, most cataract patients can achieve good distance vision after surgery. However, it should not be overlooked that the current global prevalence of myopia is over 28.3% and is expected to reach 49.8% by 2050, while the rate of high myopia will increase from the current 4.0% to 9.8%. The prevalence of cataracts is significantly higher in the highly myopic population than in the orthoptic population. The pupil is an important factor to be evaluated during the selection of an artificial lens (Intraocular lens, IOL), especially a functional IOL. It has been shown that the diameter and sensitivity of the pupil in patients with high myopia are also significantly different from those in the orthopneic population, and that there is a correlation with the adjustment status and refractive error. The purpose of this study is to investigate the following: 1. Whether the change of refractive status before and after IOL implantation in highly myopic cataract patients will lead to the change of pupil physiological characteristics, and whether the modification of preoperative measurement parameters can expand the population of myopic patients who can be reasonably applied to the functional IOL and obtain a high degree of satisfaction from patients. 2. Pupil diameter under a single fixed light source is a rough assessment for the screening of the population for functional IOLs, and this study was conducted in a single fixed light source. In this study, we measured the maximum value of pupil diameter, minimum value of pupil diameter, and rate of change of pupil diameter under bright vision and dark vision, and analyzed the correlation between the above three parameters and visual quality to further optimize the objective index of pupil diameter for the screening of functional IOL applicants. Objectives of the study 1. To observe the dynamic changes of pupil diameter and its visual quality before and after lens extraction combined with IOL implantation in myopic patients, and to analyze the correlation between the changes of pupil diameter and visual quality; 2. To explore the patterns of refractive error and pupil biometric changes in myopic patients before and after IOL implantation, and to make corrections for the evaluation of preoperative biometric indexes for reference.

Shanghai Eye Study for Adults

Blindness and visual impairment severely impact the visual health and life quality of people, particularly the 2.566 million senior citizens aged at 65 and above in Shanghai. The main reason is uncorrected refractive error, of which, 62.1% can be solved through refractive correction. For this reason, the uncorrected refractive errors of 154,000 senior citizens in Shanghai can be taken as a priority among the public health issues to prevent blindness. Now, with the aim to reduce the prevalence rate of blindness and visual impairment, it is planned to establish a public health service mechanism in terms of refractive error screening and correction for the elderly by relying on Shanghai's three-level (city-district-community) eye diseases prevention network, using proper refractive correction technology, and moving related services forward to communities in order to screen, identity, and correct blindness and visual impairment caused by refractive errors as early as possible.
