To evaluate whether NESA microcurrents can be used as an effective treatment for various sequelae present in stroke patients, specifically in the treatment of spasticity, balance, pain; and whether it affects quality of life, performance of activities of daily living and quality of sleep.

Prevalence of Long COVID-19 in the Canary Islands

With more than 246 million people diagnosed with coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) around the world, many of whom have required medical attention for past 23 months, greater emphasis is being placed on post-acute care of COVID-19 survivors. According to recent data, millions of patients who have recovered from acute COVID-19 are experiencing persistent symptoms, which lead to disability and impaired activities of daily living. Various terms have been used to describe the condition of patients who do not return to their initial health status to include post-acute sequelae of COVID-19, such as post-acute COVID syndrome (PACS) and Long COVID. The growing global burden of COVID-19 suggests that the potential effects of Long COVID in public health are vast even if Long COVID is experienced by a small proportion of patients recovering from acute infection. The ability to identify patients at high risk for Long COVID and forecasting medical resource requirements is of important clinical utility in the present. In view of the large number of people surviving after infection with COVID-19 and that should require follow-up, determine which patients are at risk of have Long COVID and who require close monitoring is crucial. In this study, therefore, we set out to analyze what type of patient profile with COVID-19 who, after 12 weeks of having suffered the infection, experiences the signs and symptoms described by current literature.

Efficacy of the NXSignal Device for the Treatment of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries

Injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is very common among sports professionals and the general population \[. Unlike other joint injuries, it is reversible, but it can damage adjacent tissues, particularly the meniscus, and catalyze knee osteoarthritis. ACL injury produces instability, joint mechanical alteration, which can lead to degenerative joint diseases. The goal of treating the injury will be to prevent symptomatic instability, restore normal knee kinematics, and prevent degenerative joint disease . Its usual treatment is surgical and therefore contributes to a significant cost for the health system, both for the surgeries themselves, and for the rehabilitation and subsequent recovery processes. Within recovery therapies, in some cases, and given their popularity within the world of physiotherapy, electrotherapy techniques are proposed, primarily transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation-type techniques with action on the muscular system and analgesia. An early intervention with neuromuscular electrostimulation electrotherapy (NMES) combined with repeated exercises is effective for the recovery of strength and restoration of the biomechanical symmetry of the limb. There is a diversity of opinions and disparate results regarding the use of this type of technique , in any case, it has been shown that electrical stimulation favors cell migration and joint tissue regeneration.

Non Invasive Neurostimulation Technology for the Treatment of Type I Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS I)

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) / Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic neurological disorder that affects the extremities and is characterized by disabling pain, swelling, vasomotor instability, sudomotor abnormality, and impaired motor function; the duration and clinical magnitude is greater than expected, being divided into three stages of progression over time: Stage I: acute (0-3 months); Stage II: dystrophic (3-9 months); Stage 3: atrophic (9-18 months). The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect on complex pain syndrome using a conventional care protocol plus the application of non-invasive neuromodulation during compared to the effect of the same protocol plus placebo.

Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte Ratio and CA 19.9 as Predictors of Perineural Invasion in Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic cancer has an incidence of 1,401,450 new cases diagnosed annually worldwide and is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in Spain. This disease is associated with a poor prognosis, reflected by a 5-year survival rate of less than 5% when all stages are grouped together. Several prognostic factors for pancreatic cancer have been identified. The most relevant include preoperative levels of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19.9), surgical margins after resection, venous and/or arterial vascular involvement, and histopathological features such as affected locoregional lymph nodes, or perineural and lymphovascular invasion. Among all these factors, perineural invasion may be the primary independent factor affecting prognosis, particularly in patients with relatively favorable pathological features. The identification of perineural invasion before surgery could influence the clinical management of these patients. It may facilitate risk stratification, allowing the identification of patients who would benefit most from neoadjuvant treatments or more aggressive surgical procedures, such as vascular resections. However, perineural involvement is very difficult to detect preoperatively. Only a few studies have analyzed the possible relationship between CA 19.9 and perineural invasion, and their results are inconsistent. Alternatively, some studies have demonstrated the utility of preoperative multidetector computed tomography in detecting extrapancreatic perineural invasion. However, these radiological tests are still not useful for directly detecting microscopic perineural invasion, especially in early stages. On the other hand, in recent years, evidence has supported that the systemic inflammatory response may play an important role in the prognosis of different malignancies. Among these inflammatory markers, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has gained prominence. Regarding pancreatic cancer, many studies suggest that elevated preoperative NLR levels are associated with a worse prognosis. However, no studies have yet been published analyzing a possible relationship between this inflammatory marker and perineural invasion. The main objective of this study is to correlate the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and CA 19.9 with histopathologically confirmed perineural invasion and, in this way, investigate these data as potential preoperative markers of perineural invasion in pancreatic cancer. Our working hypothesis is that preoperative NLR and CA 19.9 are potential markers of perineural invasion. As secondary objectives, we aim to study the effect of neoadjuvant therapy on inflammatory markers (NLR) and tumor markers (CEA and CA 19.9) in pancreatic cancer.
